    Shijen ("gods") of Sky

Was it ever explained how Genbu/Seiryu/Suzaku/Byakko/Kirin are related to Zilart storyline? I don't remember them ever being mentioned in mission dialogue.

I ask because the Zilart missions lead you to Tu'Lia in order to pursue Eald'narche, yet it seems you're railroaded into tediously getting those spawn items to make Genbu or whatever show up. Or at least, that's how it was when I had gone through ZM. I had to rely on pickup shouts just to be able to do DM and ZM16 and finish the storyline, as the people who got me through ZM for sky didn't seem to have the courtesy to finish the story.

I know the earrings are only from DM and not the last battle, but still, it seems out of place to be pursuing that pretty boy fanatic and ignore the whole storyline once you reach the floating shrine to kill...."gods" that have nothing to do with Eald'narche's plot.

If they have nothing to do with the storyline, then why do players get railroaded into getting their spawn items the moment they set foot in Tu'Lia? I mean, Divine Might and ZM16 were a lot more fulfilling and less tedious than breaking dozens of magic resistant pots for a god damn bottle of water.

You seem to think that SE is in the business of making sense and being logical.

I pity you for later missions/quests.

SE didn't force sky linkshell creators to completely ignore the last few zilart missions (as Shijen are obviously not mutually exclusive with Ark Angel/Eald'narche whacking), and should help those they brought through ZM to get to sky ALSO help them complete the storyline.

I mean, storyline is one of FFXI's strong points. Players who think outfitting with (the "best") endgame gear is more important than storyline should go play WoW.

Players get "railroad" into doing these things, becuz they want the gear that drops off sky gods. Does that answer your question? Im really not sure where you're going with this. =/

It seems anticlimactic in terms of Zilart storyline when you're abruptly stopped after ZM13 to go break Aura Pots and Aura Statues for spawn items.

Wasn't Tu'lia supposed to be a kingdom for gods?
That would be the only relevance I can think of, either way Notorious monsters rarely have anything to do with story.

Sorry didn't notice this post, but I get it now, you're pissed that your sky LS took you to sky
to do sky NMs, becuz that's what you joined them for, right? to do sky NMs?

You don't have to stop. Your LS took you up to where you need to be at, but that doesn't mean you have to stop. You can shout to finish the rest, or ask your friends/LS mates to help you finish.

Lol, wow, you're taking this way too seriously.

I happily button-mashed my way through ZMs, CoP (on three characters), ToAU and am working on button-mashing my way through WotG. Over four years of FFXI, and I still don't have a clue why there's stuff floating in sky - or sea - and I still have a blast.

The gods in Sky have nothing to do with the storyline. The original plan was to get access to Tu'Lia, fight the Ark Angels, and defeat the Zilart brother that re-activated the machine in Delkfutt's tower. That's it. The Shrine holds the entrance to the Nexus where the final battle takes place, Same with Sea, at no point are you forced to fight Jailers, they are just there as a reward system, the areas only exist for story purposes, so it was just fitting to add NMs.

Either way, at no point are you "railroaded" into doing Gods, Jailers, ect. I finished all of the Zilart missions before doing even Divine Might or touching a single pot for water or spending forever in the basement looking for a sword.

lol, I carefully and considerately read every single word of ZM, CoP, ToAU and I still don't have a clue why there's anything doing anything. :\

The storylines like to give you hope that you're actually understanding the big picture of what's going on. And then they toss in [EPIC] something else [/EPIC] that fucks with your head until you finally get hope that you're actually understanding the big picture and the cycle repeats.

The Shijin are in FFXI as a homage to the first SaGa game.

Which, incidentally, is coming up on its 20th anniversary, and celebrating with a remake of SaGa II for the DS!

(okay, maybe it's just coincidence, but still! SaGa II remake is all joy and rainbows.)

I think a better question is why the Jailers were not in any of the gloriously awesometacular CoP cutscenes

I think a little Prishe on Hpemde kiss scene might win an MTV award, certanly better than the Madonna/Britney one

I am pretty sure there is a Windurst quest that explains why the gods are in sky.

As for asking why you would do gods... I mean, do you even understand why people play this game?
