Question on Melee Aug to choose for ACP Armor

I have recently completed my ACP and obtained the Royal Redingote with +10 Acc and +10 Attack Aug.

It basically serves as a Hauby for my Mage/Support Jobs when meleeing. There is no Mage melee gears that gives +10 Acc and +10 Attack if I'm not wrong and it will allow me to sell of my SH (RDM) and store my Reverand Mail (WHM).

The problem is that several people are saying I should have gone with +10 Acc and +3% DW / +3% Crit / +2% DA.

The Jobs that I intend to use it to solo / melee DC to T mobs:

    RDM/BST, RDM/NIN, RDM/DNC
    WHM/BST, WHM/NIN
    SCH/BST
    BRD/BST

For a complete picture, I'm not be depending on Royal Redingote alone when meleeing. I will equip other melee gears like PCharm, Lifebelt, Volunteer's Brias, Woodsman Rings, Haste gears (Blessed Hands and Feet / Dusk Hands and Feet / Turban) and eat meat.

I personally think +10 Acc and +10 Attack be the best, if not best all-round choice for my needs.

May I have some honest opinions or feedback? I'm willing to toss my current and redo my final ACP fight to get the new Aug(s) if neccesary.

My honest opinion is no melee for you. But if you must, I'd probably go for 10Acc, 10Att. Great melee stats for any job, and now every job can have them. I guess it is too late to convince you to turn it into a SCH nuking body huh? (common......that MAcc and MAB is calling out to you!)

The biggest damage is going to be 10 acc and 3 DW. +10 att doesn't add any where close to the damage of 3% DW especially if you're /Nin and have Suppanomimi. 2% DA and 3% crit are probably a fair a bit more damage then 10 att as well but I'm not exactly sure which order I'd put them in.

for the /nin jobs yes, but it's useless augment on ws, or /dnc+/bst, if he uses bst and dnc subs as much as nin sub then I'd w/att cause really it's about same as 2% DA unless no brutal and your attack is pretty[500+].

Just melee on your 75 BST with better melee combat skill/stats/equipment, have a pet, and sub whm or dnc. Use the ugliest body piece for an Elv male to nuke on sch. Get a Scp. Harness +1, they are like 300k, and use that to melee on rdm, do not melee on sch or whm.

Playing to your strengths goes a long way.

I'd assume he already has haub/KO/etc for his bst or else wouldn't be asking for this, and for bst can't really put something better than haub.

I'd have gone with mage hauby too if I wanted a melee piece, since your post implies you make use of /dnc and /bst a lot.

However the question is, what do you use those combinations for, since that will be the deciding factor?

I'm a 75 sch and bst too, and curious what your playstyle is in respect to sch/bst.

My guess is that you're using this combo for solo exp or campaign or something similar e.g. to skill up weapons.

rdm/bst can use up mp on tier III nukes but has the added benefit of enfeebles and defensive spells, and can use sword ws freely.
whm/bst can also rely on defensive spells, and mystic boon as necessary will keep up mp.
brd/bst is just songs and dagger ws spam, and paeon for constant healing if you take damage..
sch/bst is? lightarts mode is just whm/bst without defensive spells and expensive tier III's. darkarts mode is more damaging with helices and expensive cure and regen, although is probably the better of the two modes to be in. Only need to switch to light arts if a -na is needed. Spirit taker and sublimation will keep up mp indefinitely.

    Is this about right?
If you're going to a more relaxing playstyle though (i.e. not using up mp and regaining as fast as possible), then I'd suggest putting the coat to another use, like the mag atk+ mag.acc. for puddings or something on sch.

I dunno. I guess it doesn't really matter what your playstyle is at the end of the day but what you want to use it for will matter.

After all that... your choice, mage hauby looks ok.

IMO, 10ACC/ATT for a general use mage melee body is the way to go. ACC/DW is better in situations where it applies, but since /NIN is far from a given (and even then, no guarantee you're actually dual wielding), it makes it a bit more niche.

    A couple points though...

One, the general mob range that you mention shouldn't -need- the ACC in the first place. If you have/can get a Goliard Saio, then that may be another thing to consider. All of those jobs can use it, the 4% Haste is better than the +3 DW, and applies to any subjob...plus, it has magey uses too. It's effectively similar to the use of NIN AF body or Rapparee harness on THF or DNC.

Also... I'm not sure why you'd need a /BST setup for every single mage job you have. Using FoV for buffer? They can all melee low EPs to break Nyzul weapons or whatnot. You can cap dagger on RDM, otherwise PLD caps higher in any melee skill, and can easily solo EM-T crabs to do so with /DNC.

I mean, /BST has uses otherwise, just very niche. Makes more sense to me to just make, say, a RDM/BST setup and use that if appropriate, rather than have a /BST setup for every mage you have.

If you aren't going to be using it on /NIN or NIN then going +10 acc, and any of the 3 +10 attack, +2 da, +3 crit should do similar damage. Depends on your job which will get most bonus out of the rest of those.

I don't melee in a proper EXP PT but I hate meritpo so I'll usually solo for buffers on Jobs that need the buffer.

Actually, /BST is usually my first choice. I'll prefer to let pets tank so I do not have to constantly worry about shadows up. Pets will also help me do the bulk of the damage to ensure faster kills. I like /DNC for the Acc trait and the MP free cures and status cures.

WHM natively has Sneak, Invisible, Tele-Spells and Recall-Spells so it's pretty flexible to travel around if a potential spot is over-camped. RR3, Regen III, Repose and a stronger Stoneskin (as compared to BST/WHM) are pretty handy too.

RDM is very good as well but it lacks the travel spells and the status cures.

I do not like to use BST as the main Job to solo in as /BST has almost all the tools of a BST main (other than the ability to use Jug Pets and the 2 Hr Familiar ability).

I'll be honest with everyone. My BST gears are truly gimped. I do not even own a Byakko's Haidate. I'm using W.Turban, Hauby, and a combination of pieces from the Hauberk Set (Hands and Feet) and the Askar Set (Legs). Even my PLD (W. Turban, Hauby and 3 x Homam) is better geared in the DD department than my BST.

I understand what you are saying, and I do agree with that. The problem is I need to raise the buffers for those respective Jobs.

    At this point in time:

    RDM - 36k/44k EXP
    WHM - 15k/44k EXP
    SCH - 7k/44K EXP
    BRD - 5k/44K EXP

After which, I'll probably solo on WHM for further merits. No meritpo unless it is a LS meritpo (which is hardly since majority of them have events almost everyday).

Actually there is the Adaman Hauberk and Hauberk. Problem is I do not have the former and the latter is only marginal improvement over the Hauby. I prefer to stick with the Hauby so that I do not have to hold a Hauby for my PLD and a Hauberk for my BST.

IMO, the things that RDM/BST has going for it are Haste, Refresh, Convert, Icespikes and Enspells. Other than PLD, it is also the only Job that I have a multi-hit weapon (Joyeuse) and + movement gear (Crimson Cuisses).

WHM/BST, I have highlighted in my reply above. ^^

BRD/BST is good for its uninterruptible Sleeps (Foe and Horde Lullaby), +CHR songs, high native CHR but lacks a strong finishing punch. It is also MP independent with isn't neccesary a bad thing. BRD/BSTs won't usually draw hate from pets (unless we are crazy enough to pull with Elergy) and that is another plus point. Peon (or double Paeon) will usually be more than enough to replenish HP.

As for SCH/BST, after using Light Arts, Addendum: White for RR2, I'm basically on Dark Arts, Addendum: Black. Drain is a pretty MP efficient way to not only to deal damage to mobs, but regaining HP at the same time. Aspir is very useful on mobs with MP.

With Addendum: Black on, we have access to 2 Sleep spells and Tier IV nukes which we can finish up the mob with Sleep-Nuke if things are not going well (Eg. Heel pet, as mob is still hitting on pet, cast a Sleep and a Tier IV). SCH is the Job with the potential for the largest burst damage among the 4 Jobs.

Those all just my personal play-style though. Different individual may have slightly differrent preferences or their own way style of doing things. ^^

    -----

As long as +10 attack is at least on par and not inferior to DW, DA or Crit Bonus, I think I should be fine.

    My sincere thanks once again.

I'd think either Evisceration or Mordant Rime would make a decent finishing punch. Also, finishing punch is kind of irrelevant now since you don't have to Leave the pet for full xp...

I'd be surprised if you can get faster xp as SCH/BST than soloing puddings /RDM.

Yeah, Sch/Rdm is buff now, even for a lolelfmage (coming from a loltarumelee, there's a nod and a wink there).

I personally preach to get the ungettable stats where possible, Ethereal, Suppa, Fast Cast, -QD, Snapshot, DW, etc.

You can always eat acc food though, and wear Goliard body for 4% haste on a mage job, so having an Acc/Att backup piece is nice.

I would say it is inferior if you find yourself /NIN a lot. You could actually do alright dmg with Blau/Joy, Suppa, Hollow, and this body. I still just recommend Att/Acc for all around good stats that apply all the time.

If you can get your hands on Goliard Saio, RR is pretty unnecessary for Rdm/Nin/etc usage.

I use this setup, which gives me 18% gear/ 33% total haste (comparable to a decent but not pimped merit dd) and I rarely have acc issues on anything I regularly face tank solo. (Except Aern in Garden of Ru'Helmets ;_; )

This is the Deathblossom/Savage Blade set I use as well, btw. Not having RR doesn't hurt it much either. Swap in O Hat and Light Gauntlets for more evasive mobs.

Usually, if I'm charming DC pets and going against T mobs, there will always be the possibility and a risk that the DC will expire before the T (even with my melee assistance). Hence any solid finishing punch that can take away 5~8% of the mobs HP at anytime will always be a good thing. But I guess you are right, Evisceration will make for a nice finish once I get the WSNM out of the way (dagger at 230+ and have unlocked Dagger of Trials).

As for faster EXP, I guess it's down to personal play style of preference. I will and can get much better EXP/hr if I'm looking for a level 70+ Level Sync PT as a SCH/RDM. I just prefer to do it in a more relaxed manner where I can chat on LS and gain EXP at the same time. Thanks for the heads up on SCH/RDM @ Pudding camp though. ^^

No offense taken on the lolelfmage comment. You speak is the truth. Hell, even the lolgalkawithsolittlemp will out nuke me. :D

On the logic of getting ungettable stats where possible, yes I can agree with that. That is why I chose Suppa. There are also times when I chose items that will benefit my main Jobs (RDM and WHM in supporting roles for Endgame) so I took Balrahn's Ring (even if the Refresh kicks in only for Assault and Salvage), Magentic Earring (over Ethereal) and Tamas Ring (over Rajas).

In this case, after much consideration, I figured I will want stats that can benefit all the Jobs that can equip the RR as opposed to specific stats that will benefit just 1 Job. A +10 Acc and a +10 Attack bonus on a mage body piece is simply unobtainable otherwise. In the end, my choice was based on the decision that a huge melee piece upgrade for 4/6 of my Jobs is worth more than an equivalent or marginally better mage piece sidegrade for 1/6 (or 2/6) of my Jobs. ^^

Thank you for your unbias analysis on DW and +Attack. Good all round stats that apply all the time is probably what I was looking for. It's nice that I do not have to toss the RR and redo the fight again.

Since we paid USD$9.95 for the expansion and completed all ACP missions, RR is there for the taking. I would rather use the Augs on RR as a true upgrade as opposed to a mere sidegrade.

And seeing how Hauby (NQ or HQ) is the main stay of all DD Jobs that can equip it, a Pseudo-Hauby with +10 Acc and +10 Attack is very tempting. Furthermore, it can totally replace my SH and Reverand Mail when I need an Acc setput. That was how I came about to my choice. ^^

10 attack for a mage job brings to mind the phrase "polishing a turd"

I can see that. I have 3 heavy melee jobs as well, so mine went to making a body piece to give them all true 6 hits. If you have nothing else to use it for, I can see your usage of it being good for a ws piece though. Shellholder for my ls has an acc/atk RR as well.
