Any way to improve the drop rate of Traps?

So I've killed approx.~ 15 turtles so far, but I've only been getting platinum ingots. I haven't beaten the game yet, so I'm still stuck on lv4, and therefore can't really do anything better than vanille's death trick.
I do have the connoisseur catalog equipped, so I dunno what else I can do at this point.
Is it just bad luck? Or can I actually do something about it?

Not much you can do about it. Everyone has varying luck on these since they are 1% drops. I'd put the rare item catalog on and pray. I know people who were 0/50~.

edit: also I've had better look getting traps and dark matter by equipping the collectors catalog instead of the connoisseurs catalog

Drop rate is horrible for these. I've spent a day or so finishing up CP on the Eden turtle and so far I'm 1/25~ on plat ingot and 1/25~ on traps....With both Catalogs on.

Maybe I'm mistake but I thought the plat ingot drop rate was 35%? Shouldn't the Trap drop rate be 1% x5 so 5% for 5Star finish? Without even factoring the help of the catalog? Any speculation on using a Shroud nullifies the benefit of the drop bonus from 5star finish? All my 25 kills I've used the Fortisol for the haste/faith just to make the fight faster.

Also before I finished the Circle thing to pop the Long Gai I was about 6/18 on the Adamantortoise one for PLat Ingot and no Traps.

Are there at least decent ways to get TP? Like abusing some mission or something? Because it's getting frustrating running around the plains and killing these enemies, which at this point are weak as hell, and keep doing this until I get 3 bars of TP to go at it with another adamantoise again..

The turtle in Eden.
There's one turtle there, and it will always be there, even after all the other turtles have been changed into shenlongs/longuis.
There are 4 groups of soldiers near the turtle. With proper gear on, you can get 3tp back in 2 kills.
This is only an available option if you are in chapter 13

yeah, just the stuff that grants TP bonus on killed stuff. Equipped with Vanille vs a turtle should fill up the 1st 2 gauges, then all that's left is the last larger gauge.

I'm not even using Vanille's death trick anymore, it's easier to just knock it down with Bahamut and debuff it with Fang, then use megaflare, stagger it up, and have at it with light/fang on com and hope on rav. When I get a little stronger I expect to stop that too, and just go after the legs with highwind..

edit: btw, any chance that the connoisseur and collector catalogs and interfering with each other? I've still to get a Trap.. >.<

I've never seen anything but paranoia/speculation. No real reason they should interfere (though with rare catalog drop rate of Platinum Ingot could be lower than if you didn't have one on if that is a concern)...

Note: I haven't mathed the italicised. May or may not be true (rare drops check first, increase in rare drop blah blah but you might still have a higher theoretical drop rate due to the high % of the common drop with the catalog)...

afaik the two catalogs don't interfere. I usually equip them both and have had no problem. and really, the conn catalog is such a minimal influence, getting five stars on the battle has a lot bigger influence on the drop rate of the traps, a whopping 400% increase. but you're probably getting five stars with that strat so I don't know what to tell you.

and oh god, the moment when you first pull off a no-summon kill is glorious. I was so happy when I realized I no longer had to waste so much time killing soldiers for TP.

From what I understand it only matters if you make the kill with an eidolon out. The character with the catalog equipped must be present and alive on the battlefield to gain the effect.
