Is this a good deal?

I've been looking to buy a new pc for ages, but can never seem to save over $400. Today I saw this combo deal on newegg for an entire set in my price range. I'm not too familiar with all of this tech stuff, but I mainly want to use it to play steam games and maybe edit some videos. And also, how long do these newegg deals usually last? I have exactly enough for it, but I don't want to be broke for the next two weeks! Thanks!

Seems like a pretty good deal except for the Hitachi HDD. I work for Geek Squad and the HDDs with the highest rate of failure are Hitachi, Toshiba, and Fujitsu... And they all have the "clicking noise" issue in common.

The computer I have right now is as loud as a blow dryer, so hopefully a little clicking won't bother me

I forgot to factor in tax and shipping so that puts me a bit out of my price range...

sounds like a dick thing to say but learn to save. you're going to screw yourself over if you try to buy the cheapest computer you can find.

You are much better off buying a good part or 2 at a time and having someone put it together for you :3 Even if it takes a while(took me almost a year)~ You save more in the end + get a good investment~

i was actually thinking about doing that. I just wasn't sure if it was worth it to buy everything in parts overtime than to just buy it all at once when the price eventually goes down for everything

build it over time, much better in the end, because
a. much easier to upgrade later (cheaper in the long run because of this)
b. you can do your research and save buku bucks by buying pieces that arent going to become outdated early, and research on things like video cards, ram, cpu's, and mobo's, know when new parts are coming out that make current gen "obsolete" so to speak (i was able to get a nvidia 8800gts 512mb for about half price by waiting for a week because of the newer 9800 series coming out, after a year and a half its still a beast of a card that can run anything i throw at it no problems
c. finally, if you dont know much about the inner workings of a computer, get together with a friend and watch and learn as he builds it

Yeah, build a computer over time. Buy a part for $50 today that'll be selling for $30 by the time you've bought everything you need gradually.

Horrible idea. Just save up $600 and build something decent in one go.

Seems like an in-house build to clear out warehouse inventory - old-ass junky ECS mobo, Hitachi HDD, low-end GPU, who-name case with a who-the-heck-knows power supply...

i did this the 1st time i built my PC and it lasted about 3 years before it got outdated again which i think is pretty good. one lesson i learned is to never buy anything absolutely brand new/just came out etc unless you really have the extra cash lying around and dont have many friends to go out with or something. i bought my last graphic card for 320 bucks, and 4 months later i see it on sale for 250 lol. and now its like 70 bucks. if i were to do it all over again, id get cards/parts that suit me for the time being. if i wouldve bought the 100$ cheaper graphic card at the time, it would've still given me the same performance speed i expected until now. so meh.

I do have to agree, though I have no experience buying parts/building my own PC just yet. It wouldn't make too much sense in some cases to buy parts with time apart as when you buy one part, that part you bought may drop in price by time you get ready to buy that next part. D:

like i said, thats why you do research, all the info you need to buy smart is right at your fingertips, you may have heard of it, its this website, called.... umm.... oh yeah, google lol


you search around you can see that a new video card series, or cpu, or motherboard chipset is coming out soon, you can wait till that generation comes out to buy todays "top of the line" at greatly discounted prices

or, you can save up however much to buy a "good" computer today, thats outdated much faster, and has parts that drop in price in 3 days cause you didnt do research
