Being the geek I am, there's a couple of big arcades down on the strip that weren't bad, name of the place is escaping me now but yeah, it's been a couple years, Fremont St isn't as horribly dull and pornographic as the new strip, new strip I found pretty fucking dull my whole time there. Not much else I know that isn't 30-40 minutes off the strip northward or west, cause I mostly spent my time residential ,_,;

Depends what you're looking for. New Strip is all glitz and glamor and is where you'll find all the lounges and nightclubs. Downtown is more for the serious gamblers and whoever wants to chill at the Fremont Street Experience (which is a lot more artsy).

ive been to vegas twice before, never left the strip which is why i ask. i have heard that downtown can be fun though and its where a lot of UNLV students kick it. i would love to pummel some 21 year old undergrad in my room at the mandalay bay.

There's a lot more casual places to hang out downtown, that is true. A lot of the bars and musical spots are standalone and generally a lot quieter and you don't have to deal with the ridiculously large crowds that you would if you were at similar places on New Strip.
