OS problem

I reformated a computer not too long ago and sometime this past week it came up "you may be a victim of software piracy" and changed the desktop and shit. I downloaded the OS sometime ago and have never had that come up before. Is there a way past that or do I need to reformat again and download a new OS to put on it? Thanks.

So if i understand what you meant.

You downloaded a OS (surely a windows) XP or Vista i presume? and now it says "you may be a victim of Software piracy"?.

You used a Key that came with the "downloadable OS" or got your own Key?

Sounds to me like it wasn't able to activate, for one reason or another.

these downloads that dont require a key have one programmed in already. obviously since you downloaded, im sure thousands of others also did, and the key got flagged.

my recommendation... wait for windows 7 and buy a legit OS.

Ok well the OS on this pc got hit too so i'm gonna download a new OS. Couple questions though: 1. Can I put the new OS on here then delete the old one after? 2. If I can do 1, will everything I have installed transfer over automatically or do i have to reinstall everything? 3. If i just reformat, can I put all my files and stuff on my second internal HD without it being affected or will a reformat wipe both HD's?

if it's a pirated OS, google for wga patch. if not, contact your reseller.

2. reinstall everything (unless you do some sort of settings/program transfer which I don't like)
3. yes, you can just format 1 hard drive if you wanted

When I download pirated OSs, I don't activate or use windows update.
