I need some car help!

I may sound like the dumbest girl ever for asking this... but, i cant figgure out out to put a tag on my new car. It's a 2010 Hyundai Accent hatchback. I just bought it last monday for traveling to and from Mobile twice a week for work (75 miles each way) since it gets twice the gas mileage as my c230. I dont want to embarass myself by going to the dealer and asking how to get the tag off...i would rather be embarassed on here.

Before someone states the obvious "just unscrew it," ive tried. The bolts just turn and turn and turn but dont get any looser than they were to start with. I assume it has some sort of safety mechanism to prevent people from stealing the tag; but the manual says absolutely nothing about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated and i would love you forever! <3

Plastic screws or metal? If it's the plastic ones they should pop out if you use a flathead screwdriver. If they are metal ones I don't see why they shouldn't just unscrew unless by some miracle the threading is stripped which would be shocking since it's a brand new car.

They're metal bolts, not screws. The square head kind. From what i can see where the dealer tag is, the scews have no threading at all on the top portion and do not screw directly into the back.... they go through and are connected somewhere.

There might be metal nuts holding it on inside of the trunk. Try popping the trunk and checking on the inside.

I tried that too. The mercedes has the nuts on the inside, so i thought about that. But the hyundai has a panel over it on the inside. I took the screws out of the panel to try to take it off, but it wont budge...and i'm not about to rip it off. Ive never had so much trouble out of something that should be so simple!

The panel should come off rather easily. Make sure you took off all the screws, check all the way around.

I'm at work right now on my lunch break, so i cant check until i get home this evening. I could only find 4 screw holes though...

It sounds like you've done the obvious, so I say fuck it: take it to the dealer and make them change it. Better that you feel a little silly than risk breaking something on a brand new car.

I used to work at a car dealership and had people come in all the time asking for us to change the tags. Don't bother going to service.. just park in the front and ask the salesman to do it.

We were always happy to do something like that because it broke the monotony of the day.

If the dealership isn't out of the way, definitely go there. If you need an excuse so it's not too embarrassing, just tell them you don't have any tools at home to do it.

That ends up being pretty funny if you can undo them with your fingers. But I agree - don't be embarrassed to take it back to the dealer.
