you should let your professor know in advance that youre working with someone incapable of carrying their weight. some are understanding and generally have a system of keeping tabs on who does how much work in each group.

My prof knows. Problem is he's on probation currently and has already literally told me he's using me to bump up other's marks. I have no recourse, ratting on him would jeopardize the rest of my degree (never let a prof get dirt on you.)

If he goes and complains about it, the prof will know he's very uptight about his GPA, this could be considered dirt in that the prof could use him later at some point knowing he will do anything for the GPA+. I've had shit like this happen to me before, purposely paired with slackers to improve their grades to make it look good on my profs. Once it was known that this was a serious issue to me, I was made to do tonnes of extra shitwork and graded excessively harsh at times. I felt that had it not been discovered that I was really trying to maintain a certain grade level, I wouldn't have been subjected to a lot of the shit I was.

Good luck on your project, If anything just do all the work, its what you're going to end up doing in the long run most likely, so you might as well accept that fate now. I wouldn't recommend bringing it up again to your prof, then he'd really be onto you. Sorry I don't have any better advice, I never could come up with a solution that didn't in some way affect me later. And yeah, fuck group projects.

This shit happens every year. I remember in Eng. Comp II I had to do a website, do research, etc for a semester long group project. I did all the work. I bitched to the professor and she actually gave me an A for the entire course. I went waaaay fucking overboard though. It helps when your job involves what you're doing in class.

In sociology we had to do a group research project. One of the guys dad was a lawyer or some shit and he owned a copy machine. We had to distribute a 30 page packet to everyone in the class and there was probably 60 people in the class. He told us he did it until the day before we had to present it. I had to spend $60 to make the copies and he refused to throw any money in for it. Professor didn't do anything.

In Astronomy, we had to do a presentation which required props and scale models of things. Total cost was $65 and 35 hours of build time not to mention the animation I made which was a 45 hour build and render time. Entire project was on me. Not only did we get marked down because the others didn't help, the professor had the nerve to knock my shit despite him knowing one person out of the 6 did everything.

I can keep going with this shit. Fuck group projects, yo.
