    Regular Expression Syntax

    I'm applying for a job inside my company that requires knowledge of HTML (for process of scraping web content) and regular expression syntax. HTML scraping I can do already but Expression Syntax, I don't get.

    I talked to one of the programmers downstairs and he told me to read "Mastering regular expressions, Second Edition". Is there anything else I can read or do to give me that winning edge?

    Here's the job:

    Data Extraction Programmer

    Preferred Requirements:

    *BS, BA degree or equivalent vocation/technical training in Computer Science or Computer Information System
    * Basic understanding of HTML for the process of scraping web content
    * Knowledge of Regular Expression Syntax
    * Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
    * Excellent analytical skills

    I have past experiences in CIS as tech support, have been working as a Editorial Analyst for the past 5 years in the same company.

    So any suggestions or interview tips would be ultra helpful

    There are some nice regex tools for learning on that site, thanks. I've learned a bit from tinkering, and once you get the basics it's a lot easier than cold (obviously).

    I personally have been trying to learn a combination of regex and sed to combine two lines into one, trimming all over the place. This is a neat site. Thanks.
