Should I sell my iPad?

It's really nice, and I really like it. But sometimes I want to view FoD or the random image thread without having blue boxes halfway down. Or view a video on Engadget, and a whole bunch of other stuff... it was probably silly to assume it could handle all of my school needs. The problem is I can't find anything that functions well and looks sexy enough within the $600-$800 price range. I'm sort of attached because it's the first iPad too -- but honestly, when the touch features hamper my forum postings etc., I rage and wonder about why i bought the thing in the first place.

tldr; keep it and deal with it til I graduate (buy a new computer then) or find something good looking but very functional in around the same price range

You can find very good laptops in the 400~600 range, and even better ones in the 700~1k range. Anything over that is silly unless you're rich. If it's just for school purposes, you could probably get a cute little netbook for $200~300, they're too small for my tastes, but they are more portable.

As far as computers goes, Macs are a massive waste of money for the performance they offer, and this is coming from a Graphic Design major who uses macs daily. While I do like Macs for any audio/video editing... that's about all I think they're good for. You can pretty much get any PC with the same specs as any Mac you're looking at for half the price.

If you want to go better than a cheap MP3 player you can get a Zune for a little bit of nothing. I recently got a new 120GB Zune for less than half of what a 64GB touch is.

They are great for what they are designed for, simple surfing and other tasks. They've got a very impressive battery life and can just slide them into your bag easily.

I personally wouldn't buy it but I can see what attracts the casual users.

I can actually agree with that. I can see how some of the more casual users would see the appeal but you probably wont find an accurate representation of that on a forum like this. A forum full of video game players is anything but casual when it comes to tech related things.

I prefer the macs cuz they have a picture of an apple on the top and are white. But really I've used macs and PCs both and I do love the security of apple, I just prefer PC. fuck those mininetbookthings though, shit doesn't even have an optical drive.

That's what external drives are for haha. NetBooks are cool as long as you are aware of their limitations and treat them as netbooks, not small, lightweight laptops! That 3-hit combo generally costs above a grand

But around 30 dollars cheaper than what they're selling it for now, can probably find it cheaper somewhere else.
It is awesome and I can guarantee you it can do all the shit you need to do for school, the only thing I've run into that it can't do as well as a regular laptop (besides the obvious 'play graphically saturated games') is run HD videos. There is tech being developed for that though, dunno if it's been implemented in other netbooks yet. A netbook is light and functional, and cheap too. Much cheaper than an ipad anyway. The lack of a disc drive is only a problem if you're against external drives.
