So i have an i7-920 system with 6GB of DDR3 in, triple channel. If I add a single 2GB stick will that affect my system negatively or should I just stick to doing another triple channel if I do add more RAM? I have 6 slots btw, 3/6 used.
Edit: Purchased a 2GB of DDR3 RAM for my laptop online and they sent me desktop RAM instead was wondering if I should keep and use.

send it back. If you need more I'd get another triple channel pack of the same type you got originally.
