    [Q] Guestpass workings?

I'm not sure where else to ask the question so here goes.

Does anyone know when somebody gets invited using a guestpass if they would keep their account/character when they would register their own retail version? Also, are there any (other) limitations when using a guestpass?

It counts as your 30 days free, so once they register the game, they don't get an additional 30 days. They will get to keep their account I assume since they just need to go on the SE account site and register the retail version to activate the game.

I don't know of any other limitations, a few people in our LS are playing using passes atm and there is nothing they cannot do that we can.

    register their own retail version
Theres no need to do this with a guest pass. Its your account for life, if you want it anyways.

so you don't need to buy a retail version, just pay for the monthly fee?

Yup, afaik. Seems to be what other forums think too. It makes sense since SE will make their gil off the monthly fee and not the initial sale :3

I'm fairly sure they're not giving away free copies of the game with the friend code, and that after 30 days you will have to purchase the game.

Wouldn't buying the standard game and registering that make it into a separate account? You have your buddy pass account(which is full retail) that's able to keep playing long as you're subbing to them.

I canceled my CE weeks ago but a friend gave me a buddy pass to play it so I figured why the hell not. When I entered the code it just asked me to put in cred card number etc and just keep the subscription up to continue playing. I got the iso/patches from ffxicore(before SE told them to take it down) so I was lucky with the client but I'm not sure how other people will get to play the game unless they buy standard.

    edit: Loadestone site mentions this

    SERVICE PERIODS
All options associated with a service account are active for the same period of time. This can be set to 30 days, 90 days, or 180 days. Once a free trial period ends, this term duration can be changed at any time, though such changes will not affect the current period. The designated period of service also determines the length of a single billing cycle.

Unfortunately your character can not transfer over, but you can update payment information and start to make payments on that registered buddy pass account. Thank you.
This was the response I've gotten from SE. I'm guessing it's practically a free account, but I feel uncertain about this. I'm just wondering if a $50 charge will show up when the 30 days are over along with the monthly fee.

I registered a friends buddy code because my CE was delayed a day, I asked them directly about upgrading to a full account and got this response:

In response to your query, you have got a full account it's just that you are getting 30days free just now. Once your 30days free has ran out you will start to pay for your services if you wish to continue with FINAL FANTASY XIV which we hope you do.
It seems the buddy code is a free full account. I'm awaiting 30 days to be reached so this can be proved or disproved though.

Yep I had asked a GM about this myself. I (like an idiot) registered my damn game using a buddy pass instead of the actual pass and hooked it to my FF13 items/beta account, I then used the actual code to make a new account thinking I could transfer them.... So I did the GM chat thing and he told me that after the initial 30 free days you just get billed normally. He also told me that due to the amount of people that made mistakes doing the codes they are going to reinstate the codes that you used by mistake, so he took my account info and told me they would send me a reply by email. It's been almost 2 weeks but idc really, just didn't want to have to purchase another game...

This is what they did with the XI Buddy pass, so I assumed it would be the same this time around. The catch is that you need a physical copy to install the game (unless you've download the retail ISO leak through a torrent).

You also paid a pretty penny for a Collector's Edition. I don't see why some people feel a buddy pass account upgrading to a retail account is far fetched.
