    Unicorn Overlord [PS4/PS5/XBS-X/NSW]

Vanillaware's latest and greatest TRPG, published by Atlus and proudly carrying alive the Ogre Battle 64 tradition. chunky demo out for all the consoles all the cool kids are checking it out.

after putting a couple more hours in the writing remains basic and the story derivative, don't think it has a chance to live up to quality of the better stuff in the genre. other side gameplay just gets better and better to hit new heights and simple shit like designing your army's banner is great. demo has convinced a buy.

I'm super excited for this, but damn finding time to fit it in between Rebirth and Dragon's Dogma 2 is gonna be rough, might have to hold off for a bit before I pick it up. Word on the street is that it's an absolute banger.

What's gonna be a better option, PS5 or the Switch?

PS5 will obviously run better. Switch is on the go.

The correct answer is PC, but Vanillaware doesn't release shit on the PC.

I opted for Switch, being able to play this in bed/at work/on the go seems fun.

Switch wise move graphical demands seem very low and like most TRPG it is an excellent mobile game

also fyi all demo progress carries forward to main game

I am in love with this concept of an "open world" for this game style.

Played the demo and at first I didn't think this would be my cup of tea, but by the end of the demo, I was pretty invested and jiving with the mechanics. Scratching lots of itches that I didn't know were there. Getting old-school Suikoden vibes with recruiting all the people, and I can't help but getting nolstagia of what my teenage brain envisioned Ramza was doing when playing FFT. Initially I was disappointed that you didn't control units during combat but I came to enjoy that it's effectively just a game of gambiting your units to be most effective. Honestly, coming off of FFVIIR, having something a little more relaxed and less action packed is a good comedown off the highs of that game.

Clive seems vastly OP early game - Pop warcry for bonus damage, gear for all attack, then just 1 vs whole team as he one shots everyone and keeps getting AP back.

Its Ogre Battle 64 with prettier graphics and a much worse plot. Its an excellent proof-of-concept. I need a damned Matsuno Ogre Battle sometime, though.
