Does verizon even offer a 15/5 package anymore? I thought the min was 30/15.

Problem is probably on their side, not yours. Youtube, obviously, is a heavily trafficked site and 720p videos require a lot of bandwidth. It's likely that it's just over capacity.

Father just got it a few months back(2 maybe?) and this is my normal speed, unless we are lower then we should be. I get almost always 20/5

YouTube can be really spotty depending on what server the video is on, at least that's my guess. Some videos will load blazing fast, others crawl. Only explanation I can think of, because both videos will be watched within minutes of one another, and one will be consistently slower than the other.

go to your channel, wait for a video to pop up but dont play it.

Then right click, and disable the "Enable hardware acceleration"

I couldnt get this to work on just a video search, i had to go to my channel first

Youtube crawls for me as well and skips a lot with Fios, Netflix and other streaming is no problem.

I will try some of the suggestions given to OP, thanks.

If you want to try something else, you can try the HTML5 trial on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/html5

Videos that aren't compatible with html5 will just play as standard youtube videos, and I've noticed my load times are pretty speedy with html5. If you want to leave the trial, just visit the html5 website again and click on "Leave the HTML5 trial". Pretty hassle free if you just want to play around with it.

I think this is the winning answer. You can't use something like Akamai to effectively cache video traffic, so you're going to get inconsistent performance based on a lot of variables.

The most likely one is that whatever server/SAN your particular video is tied to is sitting in a data center with a fairly full pipe, trying to serve up more videos than it has bandwidth for. You can backtrack from there into the data center itself to find more possible bottlenecks. Everything from oversubscribed end of row/top of rack switches (I think YouTube upgraded to Nexus-series switches from Cisco, and if that's correct, oversubscribed racks are unlikely), to oversubscribed NICs on server/SAN, to overtaxed CPUs on servers. Or there could be a policy-based bottleneck... someone turned something down somewhere, and you're feeling the pinch.

Youtube, supply & demand. Especially during peak hours you'll get hit/miss on good servers that aren't overloaded.

    http://www.videoaccelerator.com/

This type of technology does indeed work, and the program will work 7/10 times on almost any video you throw at it. All it does is request more connections from the source, takes pieces of data from each section and puts them together quickly to form the video you're watching.

Only thing I don't like is the company which created it, and a few other quirks.
