    Wanderer's Palace Full Clear Observations/Strats

Posted this over at my FC guide section.

    http://passthebong.freeforums.org/wa...lace-t720.html

This is the first instance I have done that I have felt challenged. Now I feel like it is farm status and I am hoping whatever is next will give us that same experience until endgame.

Feel free to post your observations or experiences with this instance.

    I play Paladin.

    My introduction:
    Spoiler: show
My gear isn't exactly spectacular and due to constant 1017 and balls out rushing the main storyline, I haven't really taken the time to sit down and figure out where I need to go.

    http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...racter/1344653

I am not legacy. Was just convinced by my friends to come back just in time to blow away Darnus.

    First off for trash:
    Spoiler: show
The giant tonberry can be leashed so at any time you can just run through him to get where you need to go. He will whack someone with a heavy hit once and then lose interest or switch to someone else. Very short leash, and taking him into one of the many small doors leading to boss rooms will get him to despawn.

No real need to hide in corners waiting for him to pass and wasting time. I typically pull trash into a corner to kill if he manages to catch up to us.

I believe there are 3 packs of bugs that will spawn when you get close to either the top of stairs or near a chest. With BLM and BRD the bugs died in 4 seconds.

A shortcut is that the small tonberry sentries that never move only aggro by sight, so you can run behind them safely to get into doorways.

    First boss:
    Spoiler: show
This guy is easy. As ranged, when he launches crap at you, run away from it. I tank him a bit closer to a corner to give people a lot of room to move. I think if you have 2 ranged, a healer, and a tank he uses a move that sucks people in to him with a giant long range cone ability. I didn't see this at all when we had a DRG.

    Should be tank and spank.

Edit: After he does the suck in move he does an immediate 360 cleave that isn't shown by an AOE circle. Best for everyone to run from him immediately, and the tank should just stand back for a second to avoid unnecessary damage.

    Second boss:
    Spoiler: show
I typically tank him a bit more to the right, as when the adds come a single flash will gather most of them (minus the white). There is no cast for add spawns so you have to play it by feel. 2 quick flashes followed by a circle of scorn is all you need to gather aggro.

    Our add kill priority:

    Blue (heals others and boss)
Purple (puts the shock paralysis on a target. Sucks after he focuses someone if they can't run away)
    White (blizzard adds heavy)
Yellow (not sure what he does, never was an issue)
    Green (poisons)

Blue doesn't come out in the first wave of 3.

With BRD and BLM, using flare and other AOE really nuked the shit out of the adds. Just need to make sure at LEAST blue and purple are dead first.

As soon as he switches targets, I will typically stoneskin/cure whoever he is on, and if necessary use cover. If tanks are on voice, it helps to call when the boss is no longer chasing someone.

Edit: AOE makes this really easy. Esuna is pretty important if you miss one.

    Tonberry King:
    Spoiler: show

This is a great time to start to familiarize yourself with focus targets. Everyone should set the king as focus (shift + f). This lets you see the stacks of Rancor as well as when he is casting "Everybody's Grudge".

    (((Phase 1)))
    Tonberry waves will come out in ever increasing amounts. 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 etc.

The key is to make sure some of the tonberries die before each grudge, but not too many. "Everybody's Grudge" is not mitigatable (sometime is mitigating it slightly, maybe shield oath? But sentry, and even hollowed ground does NOT mitigate it)

Tank the boss right in the middle. Adds will not aggro until they reach the king (or another active tonberry) or are attacked.

    THERE IS AN ANTI-KITE

We found the best bet was to just have everyone stand near the tank and do what they needed to do. If you have aggro and you try to move around you will get repeatedly blasted by purple shit until you stop. NO KITING.

With 2 ranged, they just stood their ground and killed what they needed to kill. The King doesn't seem to AOE.

Boss does 1000 damage per tonberry killed per grudge. I have 4400 hp, so I can comfortably take up to 3 tonberries per grudge. Grudge resets rancor.
DPS watch the focus window to see how many stacks of rancor he has so you know how many tonberries you can kill.
Healer watch for the cast bar on your focus window so you know when to drop a big heal.
Tank, use some mitigation BEFORE the grudge to make sure your healer can comfortably top you off before it hits. I alternate between rampart and sentinel as needed before each grudge so I always have at least 1400hp left after the hit.

    (((Phase 2)))
Big tonberry's will slowly walk to the center. Ignore them and nuke. This is a DPS race. There may be some small tonberry's left. I don't know if he still grudges at this point. If there are too many, may be worth killing off a couple.

Just nuke and win and DON'T MOVE.

Edit: There may be a decent kite strat. I will try and edit when I know more.

    2nd boss
me (blm) and a bard just aoe the adds, they die within 6-8 seconds.
or I can double instant flare and kill them in about 2seconds...!

    Last boss
bard took care of the small tonberries, I as blm just went balls to the wall nuking the boss down.
With good dps, the boss is dead before any of the big tonberry even start moving.

I feel the other lv50 instance with the demon wall was a little more challenging (and longer) that and you get runestones toward the "300 weekly" limit unlike the tonberry one.

i'd always end up getting swarmed by the 6+ tonberry waves. does this just mean dps was lacking for entirety of fight?

A fresh DPS can still hold his own for this dungeon. It may have been bad strategy somewhere or it wasn't explained enough to them. For first few waves you really only need to kill them as they come. They don't spawn 4 at once until he's below half health or so. After that you will want to kill however many the tanks HP pool can handle, and then zerg/lb when the 8 slashers appear.

Blm should be able to handle adds by himself while the other dps just zergs the king. Fire III > fire I before astral fire III, then just fire I > scathe for the rest until out of mp. Nice thing about blm is you can just stand in the middle and nuke everything down as they come, just don't let it stack more than 4 rancors.

The point of killing the first couple waves right away is so those tonberry's aren't around later on when it matters.

With that, I saw someone talking about an interesting kiting strat where they just nuked the boss and the tank seemingly just kept walking backwards with a huge stream of tonberry's following him. I don't know if maybe the healer just spammed the tank through the anti-kite or what. I may try this next time. If it is easier, I will edit my strat.
