    Tanking questions

Hi guys my ls mate told me to post here with the questions I have so I hope you guys don't mind :O. Anyways you see I'm a rank 38 gladiator currently almost 39 and my question is whats best gear for tanking? Iron cuirass? vintage hauby? templar set? The Iron cuirass gives more hp so I assumed that would, but my Linkshell mate said the templar is going to be the best. Not really sure what to do hopefully one of you guys can help me if you don't mind. Thanks :D.

Prioritization should generally be HP->Def->M.Def->VIT->STR. Iron Celata, Iron Cuirass, Iron Gauntlets, Tarred Leather Trousers, Iron Sabatons, Templar's Tassets.

I can't find this information on any of the databases. Is there any decent Food for us tanks to eat in order to increase magic defense and/or elemental resists significantly?
    Specifically, Fire resist/reduction.

Can anyone think of a way to reduce this DMG since mobs AoE or Frontals are hitting everyone in the low 40s to mid 40's for like 1500-2000k~.
(quick example might be stacking the Fire cut % armor) 20% would be nice if it's even possible at this point.

I believe bronze plate set would be best at your level since you gonna suffer penalty for wearing shit over your level if you wear iron.

Pretty much all food is just 2x stat+5 or stat+3, theres probably m.def/resist+5 food though.

HQ items help a bit to get more DEF/MDEF. Especially on something like body piece or headgear that have large base values.

At your level, getting a Bronze Cuirass +1 if you can find it, will give you much better stats than equipping Iron Cuirass. Heck, the NQ will probably give more, since you're at the optimal rank.

Against magic: Defender (adds MDEF too), lots of MND, could try some PIE. Pop rampart when needed.

If you're still getting one-shot by Devilets during your leves, you're doing it wrong.

Lancaster posted a tank set for r50 (2nd post).

As for foods, there are a bunch of ones which give MP/HP+5 and Ele Resist+5 or DEF+5, no food gives two +5 stats that really complement each other. It's all a mix of crafting and DoW/M stats or HP/MP and I can't see any food that gives more +3 STR/MND stype stats.

Salt Cod is 30min Eva/Resist+5, 1k from NPC or Tiger Cod + Table Salt (all low rank). Distilled Water gives Resist+5 and is cheap from NPCs

Orobon Stew and Bouillabaisse gives m.def but are high rank synths/receipe isn't known.

Generally, Meats/Eggs are DD, Breads give HP/DEF+5, Salads/Pies/Sweets are DoM stats

Thanks guys. I'll go with a simple HQ & Ranking up for level difference for now, and pop HP food, i think.

Rabbit Pie is not bad as HP food. On my marauder it adds close to 100HP. Also, ATK+.

Thoughts on Iron Cuirass vs Vintage Hauby for tanking:
    - Iron Cuirass has better damage cuts, VIT+6 and 53HP.
    - Vintage Hauby has only one less DEF, more MDEF, more ele resist & STR+8/DEX+4.

STR helps for shield blocks as well and I would probably prefer vintage hauby over the cuirass, especially against magic.

    Against piercing damage, cuirass wins.

Templar's is a scaled down r49 version of the vintage hauby basically, only looking at its stats.

Some other dumb questions (yet again)

Lancaster posted the stats on the gear, but what about the stats you set by leveling up.

Are STR and DEX worthwhile on Glad or I should just stack VIT and MND?

    2) What 'Sub Jobs' are good for tanking and what level should i bring them to?

    Thanks

53 HP is far more important than the small gains that Vintage Haubergeon has over Iron Cuirass. HQs are a different story -- probably at +2, maybe at +1, Vintage would pull ahead, since there are very, very few situations currently in the game that can instagib a 50 GLA.

VIT to or close to soft cap, a healthy amount of STR and DEX, and some MND should be a safe way to distribute stats.

@lancaster: Yea, I'm with you, better to abuse HP if something can one shot you. Makes me wonder, how well does MRD tank at 50, if you know anyone that does?

@Ratatapa: Actually, as a tank you can profit from all stats directly, except INT.

STR: Increases damage prevented when blocking attacks with a shield
VIT: Reduces damage taken from physical attacks + HP up
DEX: Evasion + Parry up (and you'll need a fair amount for accuracy anyway)
MND: Reduces damage taken from magic attacks + MP up
PIE: Increases your chance of resisting magic attacks of others

How you raise them is up to you.
