    Dreamcast Emulation

Anyone on BG messed around with Dreamcast emulation much?

I'm starting to collect some Sega CD and Saturn RPG games and I'd like to avoid picking up a Saturn and CDX if at all possible since between the two I'll be buying maybe a dozen games in total.

Does anyone know of a way that I can play physical copies of Sega CD or Saturn games on a Dreamcast?

From what I've read so far it seems that most Dreamcast emulation requires you to have a boot disc in the system at all times, is that really the case? Everything I've been finding related to the topic is from 2002/2003 and I don't really know how credible and/or current any of this information is anymore.

check the thread on the new Shining game in the Gaming section

edit: my bad, i missed the part about you asking about doing it on a Dreamcast. in the 2nd page of that thread (url below) a few bros were sharing info on playing Saturn on a PC. as for on a Dreamcast i have never heard of it happening, but it is true that all you really need to play burnt anything on a Dreamcast is the correct bootloader in the image...as for someone actually coding SCD/Saturn emulators for DC, i'm no help sorry.

your best bet is to probably just try and play them on a PC. all i can really say is if you've never played a lot of the SCD/Sat games then you have something great to look forward to!

I remember folks using DC homebrew emulators for things like NES...but not Saturn or Sega CD.

Second that PC is probably the way to go if you don't want to buy the consoles - though it's not like either are TurboDuos or anything in terms of cost.

Emulating Saturn or SCD on the PC is pretty easy these days. If you have physical copies of the Saturn/SCD games, even better. They emulate just as easily. I can make an NES emulation disc in my sleep, but I don't think there's anything for Saturn or SCD.
