is there any good reason to think a rainbow obi wouldn't boost a magical WS and resulting SC if they were different elements

Not really, as long as you had both effects. That's another minor bonus of such an obi.
I'll give you in normal pt situations mages wont be meleeing much (though as a blm I often will use my spare tp on vidohunirs) but how do you get threnodies and the like only working a fraction of the time? Are you assuming most mobs are significantly higher in there dark/light resist where even lowering it wont matter? Or did you mean double of both day AND weather for BOTH ws and skillchain? Or were you assuming random weather/day? Because assuming you have the right day or weather and you lower the resistance enough it would be 100% of the time for one bonus.
But wtf does meleeing have to do with either? True you'd need a sch main for the storms (though outside one could work), and something to lower resistance to dark/light which since there is no ninjitsu or AM2 for those elements kills that. Rayke could work if you use a run tank and he is silly enough to even merit it but pretty much that means brd which I still see being used sometimes along side rdm sometimes on there own. Now I'll agree cor wont likely skillchain much but rngs skillchain all the time. Sure they don't self skillchain as much but still we aren't talking about 5 support 1 DD pts lol. Most rng pts skillchain a lot even if it's mostly incidental. Quite conveniently the highest dmg physical ws for both bow and gun both make light with TF.
Mind you this was only if you are trying to get the same element for both ws and skillchain. Even ones that don't you have a 50% chance that it will be a day of the week that will work with a skillchain so throw on a storm of the element of the ws and you are getting weather bonus for ws and day bonus for sc.
The bonus is small but it does exist. And quite frankly I doubt SE would go thru the trouble of analyzing likelihoods and just go with one is pure convenience and another is convenience with some advantage some of the time even if no one is likely to do it on purpose
And of course that is just the offensive. I can't find where I read it but I could swear obis could be used defensively too. Granted rainbow can only get you 1 extra if day and weather are different but it might make their use more popular assuming sch support
No... but you'd have day for one and weather for the other

While we're on the topic, did we ever figure out if day/weather affecting macc/meva was a thing?
I don't think that was determined... and damn just read that while it's the wearers obi that matters it's the users weather that counts for defense. By by sch lowering dmg a ton in avatar fights
Haven't thought about obi's in a long time cuz I never used nor needed them, but wouldn't they be better off segmented, like light/fire/lightning/wind and dark/earth/water/ice? Like, with an all elements obi, if you cast Stone in earth weather, you'd get that boost, but if it was on windsday, it would be canceled out?
Wow, Why did i think Obis only worked on magic and no WSes/SCs. IS it cause most wikis specifically say magic only?
I'm not sure where you are getting magic onry- in fact the BG page even explicitly states that they work on SCs.
As does other wiki... as well as ws too

They talk about ALSO obis.
Hah! Take that Dasva!![]()

I would assume the Obis would have no negative effect, like how the elemental staves individually will nerf the opposing element, but Prism/Chatoyant Staff do not.
Knowing how long it took them to release chatoyant we could still be talking about this by mid 2015 lol
Speaking of chat... using obi to also trigger iridescences on the ws and skillchain bwhahhahah. Of course that's a ranged ws thing only since no one would actually use a staff ws with it anymore. And for trueflight + light get Weather. Ring!
Lol so over in the jp forums they are apparently lurking in NA forums and even here at BG and pulling out how people have cheating and then translating and complaining about it. Enough to get another dev response
Nice to see they're still calling us gaijin.
