    Controller reference and questions

Is there a guide with all the button-combo inputs for PS2 controllers? (e.g. L1 + right analog for camera zoom)

Also, is there a way to use the "Return to set camera angle" on controller, or a way keep the camera from zooming in when you run backwards? It's a really annoying problem to have to continually reset camera distance every time you need to run towards the screen.

Finally, is there any way (on PC) to remap controller functions using in-game settings? If I could change R3 to "Return to set camera angle" that would solve a great deal of my problems.

Its nice to see a thread like this one, I am myself playing on PC with a Microsoft "XBOX" controller, I encounter a problem that make me look bad when it happen, basicaly when I move my char for too long with the left stick the camera freeze, start spinning & make my character auto-run... I wouldn't care much in general, but this problem prevent me to try/enjoy content such as AK/titan.

Yes, it does happen in AK against the demonic wall when i dodge the purple bands, I die, party die (I am WAR main) or titan for the same reason.

Anyone have an idea of where that is coming from? thank you very much in advance.

Doesn't the L3/R3 button control auto run?

I use a wireless "360" for PC controller and have never had any issue where I lose control like that. Auto run is on left bumper so not sure how auto run kicks in. Only annoyance is the camera zoom, always have to rezoom out and sometime when in battle, won't let me. Biggest annoyance is in AK when I can't switch between the statue demons easily since I can't see there names zoomed in and them being do talk and flying.

Yeah when this happens you need to start zooming in then it'll let you zoom out... I assume it happens when you're at max distance, game automatically zooms in but thinks you're still at max so doesn't let you manually zoom out again. It's super annoying in Titan.

Any idea on how to unassign a particular button on a controller? I'd like to try mapping my push to talk to the R3 button, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove an action already assigned to a controller in 14.

Just go through the calibration process again, and choose to skip the R3 button.

You can use the in-game button configuration to change SOME of the button mappings, but it's not terribly useful. The problem is that the game dictates which actions can be mapped to which buttons. For instance, it won't allow you to assign the Jump command to say, the Start button, but it can be mapped to any of the 4 main buttons. And while you can manually edit the FFXIV.cfg file to assign whatever command you want to any button, the game will override these settings once it's fired up.

Awesome! Will have to try that. Would always go to max zoom after the battle, so this makes sense. Greatly appreciated.

Autorun is L1(LB). Camera zoom is L1(LB)+right analog. You can get input overlap when you're trying to zoom.

This game is not as good as XI when it comes to stopping autorun by steering in the opposite direction; a lot of times you end up making wide autorun turns instead. This is obviously a problem in any content where dodging is required.

(I have this same issue but it's because my L1 is push-to-talk)

still trying to find out how to set my ps button as my vent button. I had it in 1.0, and I've still been at a lost as to how I did it.

Ksandra, are you using a bluetooth Dual Shock 3? If so, did you have to do anything crazy to get it to work? I've also been thinking about switching to DS3 for that extra button.

Apparently it's fairly easy to hook up a PS4 controller to PC if that's your thing. That's just from some headlines I saw so do some research before making that jump. I picked up a Sabertooth a little while back but haven't even hooked the damn thing up yet. Figured it'd be a good way of setting up a push-to-talk button and other custom macros.

I don't think you can map anything to the PS button, but with motionjoy you might be able to hook something custom up? Personally I put my transmit button on R1 and the most it's done is switched to another page. Though honestly I'm not sure there is a better place to put it since L1 is autorun (seems like a mistake waiting to happen) and everything else would be pretty awkward.

Also, setting up bluetooth for your PS3 controller is stupid easy, as long as you have the right components. It can get a little wonky at times when going from USB > bluetooth > USB (like when you need to charge the controller).

I do plug in, but I think my husband tried blutooth at one point, I'll ask him when he gets home from work.

@ elcura, ya I think I did it through motionjoy somehow. Map it so the ps button was a keyboard button or something. But I can't seem to do it anymore.

Does a DS3 transmit data over the USB cord? I thought that was power only. If it's plug-and-play for wired USB, I'll probably just do that (once I can get some confirmation that PS button can be mapped to something).

If I recall correctly from simply plugging it in the windows controller config detects all the normal buttons, but not the sticks/triggers. Not much use, unfortunately.

With motionjoy at the very least you can have a wired USB connection from your controller to the PC and have it work 100% of the time. Basically if you want to use a gamepad on PC I'd recommend getting motionjoy or something similar, since the basic windows features are ass and unhelpful.

Some things I have compiled from using controllers on PC with FFXIV:

You can use a dualshock 3 or wii U pro controller wirelessly, very painless/ easily (no motionjoy tinkering etc.) with these:
    Wii U Pro Controller: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Wii-P..._aya_orig_subj
    PS3 Dualshock: http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-PS3-C...cm_cr-mr-title

Some notes here - I used both of these controllers with FFXIV. The PS3 maps the same as the Xbox 360 controller, while the Wii U pro maps the ABXY to the Nintendo layout (love the Wii U pro controller, hate the layout)

Last week I bought a dualshock 4 and have been using that every day for the past week. Best controller I have used by a large margin. You can connect it to your computer via Bluetooth but the button mapping is completely borked for FFXIV. To fix this, you're going to have to edit the FFXIV.cfg file found in /My Documents/My Games/Final Fantasy XIV - A Realm Reborn. (Make a backup copy if you want to switch back to another controller.)

Copy/ Paste from the thread I used to change my file (this puts all buttons back into the standard Xbox/ Dualshock 3 layout. The touchpad and the PS Button do not appear to map, the rest work as expected)

I used the following to get the buttons to work right:
    Alias {90,91,88,89,41,40,32,33,73,72,48,49,3,2,1,0,4,6,1 0,5,7,11,9,8}
The important section that you need to be aware of is:
    3,2,1,0,4,6,10,5,7,11,9,8
I tried changing only only one instance of Alias but that didn't work so I just modified all instances.
I also found that you can pair the controller up through bluetooth by putting the controller into pairing mode by pressing Share+PS and you'll see the controller light begin to strobe. A word of caution though the controller does not turn off after a couple of minutes of being idle. You have to manually turn it off by pressing and holding the PS button till the light turns off.
Here's the neogaf thread where I found the FFXIV.cfg info: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthre...703501&page=13
There is probably a way to edit this file to work with the Wii U Pro controller as well, but I haven't tried yet since the dualshock 4 is fantastic

DS4 is the tits. The analog sticks are phenomenal, great build quality/weight to it, and the texturized rubber/plastic of the back/sides make it feel great in my hands. The pad is total plug'n play with Win7 if you go wired, giving you access to two additional buttons compared to DS3. Even when connected via micro USB it shows up in Windows as "Wireless Controller", but all buttons function just fine, including the PS and touchpad click buttons. I've mapped those two additional buttons to keyboard 3 and 4 via xpadder to get an additional 8 pseudo cross-hotbar actions available to me. See my post here for more info on that front.

The only complaint I have with it so far is that the Share and Options buttons are a wee bit awkwardly placed, and are almost flush with the face of the controller, making them a bit hard to press at times.

With Drace's minor config file editing mentioned above, it performs flawlessly in FFXIV. Been using it for a week now and I cannot recommend this controller any more highly.
