To answer because mine came in today: the new one is heavy and bulky somewhat but nowhere near the beast of the 3g/3gs case. They've made some nice improvements and the only flaw I can find is for some reason the hole for the audio is offset so if you have to use it you have to open the flap. I almost never use that part of it so meh.
Just got my OtterBox, can't say I can compare it with any previous version of OtterBox so it will be just a fresh take on it. This case is definitely not for the faint of heart. If you are gonna miss the slim, sexy look of the phone, stay away at all costs. That being said, I love it so far. The reason for buying the case is for protection, not looks...and protect it does.
All the parts are protected with film(face, front facing camera, rear camera, apple sign) as well as silicone(Dock port, Headphone jack, Volume buttons, and Power button.), except for the Flash (Assuming the film would mess with the flash), the ear piece part (you do want to listen to your phone calls right?), and the speakers at the bottom of the phone. The phone fits in the hard shell innards perfectly, and the silicone fits around it pretty well, not perfect as I found the back of it not being perfectly snug...but its a none issue so far. I've dropped it a few times already on tile and it seemed to have taken the falls well as expected.
I ended up getting it for 39.99 (5 dollar online coupon you can search around, then another 5 dollars on top of that for the delay) and I'm very happy with it. This is an initial impression though, as I've not had a long time to play around with it.
Also, Tythera, it's not that they misaligned the hole...it's designed that way. The hole is for the noise cancellation mic on the top of the phone, not for the headphone jack...so it is definitely working as intended.

Anyone else try installing apps with ifunbox/installous? Surprised that it still works.
anyone else try this? http://www.iphonedownloadblog.com/20...your-iphone-4/
it didn't work for me.. i have the permissions set the way they are supposed to be and everything
edit: apparently netflix killed this hack, O.o
So I'm basically brand new to jailbreaking, I was always afraid to try it with my 3G but it seems pretty tempting for me iPhone 4. I updated to 4.0.2 when it came out a few days ago, am I screwed until the jailbreak gets updated?
afaik
Quick question: I got my Otterbox Defender today and even though I really like it, I was wondering what the hole above the speaker (the one next to the front-facing camera) is for? It's obviously nothing bad but I'm just curious.
noise-canceling mic.
Thought that was at the top next to the headphones? Well, I stand corrected then, thanks!
Oh, it is. I thought you meant the hole in the phone, not the otterbox. The hole in the otterbox above the headset is for the proximity meter.
anyone have any recommendation for a specific brand of screen protector?
Ohhhhh, how stupid of me, thanks for the heads up!![]()
