Saw the trailer for this today. Thought it was a funny coincidence considering I dressed my daughter up as Mary Poppins.

I really want to see it, looks cute. I am sure people are going to blast it for being horribly inaccurate or w/e (even youtube comments all pissed about a film showing Disney as a nice guy).

I know there are a few Disney lovers out there, though, so figured I'd give a heads up about it.

Tom Hanks can do no wrong ever. I will watch any movie he's in.

I could be wrong, but it's my understanding that the real P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson's character) hated the movie, before and after it was made, and all the way to her death. And being a Disney flick, I'm sure they'll twist it and make it into a happy ending. Not that I mind. Anyone who goes to a theatre to see a movie that isn't a documentary and expects it to be historically accurate is a moron. Hollywood will always Hollywood things up, so people should enjoy the movies for what they are while still having the sense to know that it'll mostly be fiction.

And even a lot of documentaries have to be watched with a careful eye. So many of them are skewed to make the viewer sympathize/empathize with the cause the director/writer/whoever is going for. As opposed to fairly representing/arguing the issues/events covered from all sides.

Ya apparently the current musical wouldn't even have the disney songs except she died before it was finished being done. I have zero doubt in my mind they'll make it a happy ending, but I am ok with it.

It's kinda crazy to think this is the first film to actually have Disney in the spotlight (or at all?). I would imagine Disney Studios won't let people put him in movies out of fear they harp on the antisemitism or w/e, but still, the guy did a lot of shit in his life that I'd love to see as a film.

I agree with you there. It's really surprising there hasn't been a biopic or anything like that made yet. I mean, I may be too young(25) to know about how mean or evil he was (if he even was), but casting Tom Hanks to play him was a good first step lol

Disney is doing a special sneak preview starting on the 13th at their burbank studios. 50 dollars a ticket and get a copy of Mary Poppins anniversary edition on DVD and a tour of the studios after. Wife got us tickets since we will be in disneyland that week.

I managed to get through the first read (I can't really do longish reads on my laptop screen). It was really quite interesting. It seems almost as if most everyone who made acquisitions did so out of spite more then anything. I mean, there is some evidence to his antisemitism, but nothing really concrete.

And making insensitive/racist jokes/cartoons seemed to be a sign of the times more then anything. Of course it seems incredibly harsh compared to our modern standards, but even then, you look at all the rampant racism that still exists on a global scale today, and all the racial equality progression that happened in the US during the 60's and 70's, what Disney did seems quite tame.

Finally got to see this today. An absolute must for Disney fans imo. I actually found it to be fairly accurate (at least more than I would have expected for a Disney film). I thought the ending was done rather smartly to go with that. Thompson and Hanks were absolutely spot on for their parts. So glad we didn't put this off.

I agree with you entirely, was a fantastic movie, really well done! The ending was great too, picked a really good point to end it without having to deal with some unnecessary aftermath. Of course I'm sure it wasn't entirely accurate but for the most part the tension and squabbling and fighting was really well done. And Paul Giamatti was great too! The scene when

they built that little leaf house in the grass, and then the scene at the airport near the end of the movie where she made a list of people for his daughter,

some really heart warming and enjoyable moments between him and Emma Thompson
