Is there a good free pc anywhere application? I want to be able to access my home computer from work, but would prefer to not give Symantec my money.

RDC wont work unless youve a satic IP via your ISP or through a service like http://www.dyndns.com/
The ones mentioned above still need a confirmation on the other side from what I remember.
Try looking at VNC.

They don't.
You can set teamviewer up w/ a static password and run on startup and only allow remote access for a specific ID/IDs so only your remote connections will be accepted.
