David Jaffe closed the show at Sony's E3 conference with his surprise reveal of Twisted Metal for the PS3, which he had denied the existence of multiple times. The game will feature online multiplayer and possibly online co-op. The lack of subtitle or number suggests that this will be a series reboot, from the creators of the original game.

What we know:

- Online multiplayer of up to 16 people.
- CALYPSO will be making a return, and it will feature the same crazy story lines as the original Twisted Metal games. The basic plot will be the same.
- New 'NUKE' game type where you choose a faction to play against an opposing faction. Each faction has a statue, for which the other team needs to destroy. In order to destroy these statues, the player must abduct the enemy team's leader to get a nuclear missile that they can then launch at their opponent's statue. Only two factions have been revealed so far, the Dolls (Dollface's faction) and the Clowns (Sweet Tooth's faction.)
- The game will support local split screen like titles before it.
- The game will feature some sort of customization.
- New selectable vehicles in the game include Reaper (a motorcycle, likely Mr. Grimm's), Roadboat (a car that looks similar to a Mitsubishi Eclipse), Death Warrant (a 2005-2009 Ford Mustang), a rodent catcher van (Vermin), an 80's Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Meat Wagon (a medical 1959 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Combination Car, which closely resembles Ghostbusters' Ecto-1) and Talon (a helicopter).
- New weapons include Sniper Rifle and Shot Gun.
- Each car will now have 2 SPECIALS, instead of 1 like the previous games.

Characters confirmed so far:

- Sweet Tooth will be making a return.
- Darkside will be making a return.
- Junkyard Dog will be making a return.
- Crazy 8 will be making a return.

Release date:

Only known information is that it will be released some time in 2011. No specific quarter announced yet.

I know my brother is hoping for Mr. Grimm. When we was younger we'd always play against each other, he'd be Mr. Grimm and I'd play
Shadow. I was fucking lethal with Shadow's special. I also sometimes used Hammerhead or Mr. Slam and just used to ram Mr. Grimm and fuck him up because he has such shitty defense, but jfc Mr. Grimm's special was pretty insane, could pretty much one-shot some characters.

Spectres special was fucking cheap, but I kind of hope to see him as well.

EDIT: Hoping to see Minion and Dark Tooth in one form or another.

Main reason I'm psyched about this game is because of the nostalgia the title brings. My brother purchased a ps1 with his own money when we were kids and twisted metal was the first game we played on it. We played the hell out of the series.

Was like Mortal Kombat 1-2 for us during the previous generation. Now We get to see both of them come out again.

I've owned every twisted metal except for black.. which I've sadly only played a handful of times at my friends. Nuke looks awesome.. can't wait for this.

Need to at least destroy big ben, or set yourself up next to a certain teleport on the same level shooting out ricochet's nonstop via the infinite ammo cheat. :3 Or lifting a nearby car up with a crane and dropping it into a 'pit of fire' so that it dies. So many interesting secrets in those games, especially the earlier ones. Playing with two players always made things more fun too. And going on the roller coaster tracks at the carnival! And figuring out what the fuck you're supposed to do your first time on the blimp because the cars keep respawning.

Ahhh.. nostalgia feels good.

V8 was good (I loved that sweet ass manta ray - "put another shrimp on the barbie~ he he haw!"), but it owes itself to Twisted Metal. TM2 was arguably one of the best games on the PSX, period. It had depth, balance (so long as you weren't using minion), great graphics for the time, an awesome soundtrack (that interchanged with a few other games at the time, like Jet Moto), a hilarious plot, and more replayability than many of the games that come out nowadays.

It seems that every game from that early PSX/N64 era that kicked ass is coming back - hell, every awesome game from my childhood to teenage years is coming back. Its a great time to be alive - fuck the emos out there.

It's so crazy how long it's been since TM2... this game is gona rock. TM: Black was good though also.

Off-topic - Jet Moto 1 was amazing too. The snow levels especially, where you could catch a ton of air time.

I completely forgot how awesome the soundtracks for each game were. I remember some times I would pop the disc in just to listen to the songs through playstations menu instead of actually playing the game.
