Getting HD BR rips to run on a ps3 without converting.

Im retarded, and have a shitty pc. Converting is out of the question and recoding via a media program is too.

Why did the first one fire up no problem over my windows media sharing, and the other did not?

Im using windows media sharing, and my ps3.

I guess the overall question is this. What format do I need to look for specifically when searching for blu rays in order for them to fire right up using the media sharing.

MKV2vob. It uses low resources. It essentially just pulls the MPG out of the matrovski file.

From my experiences only (no research), mpg and avi are supported in streaming to ps3. MKV files are not supported.

I'm sure there are more. However there are programs like the one tyche mentioned an others that will allow you to stream mkv files and convert them on the fly.

mkv2VOB will simply just make another .mpeg file out of the .mkv file that the playstation can run on a hard drive or stream without any on the fly converting. It takes my shitty laptop about 5 minutes to convert a full movie, as long as it doesn't have to remux any audio, if that's the case, about 10 minutes. None of the video is even touched, so it's not really doing any video reencoding, more or less extracting. Quality is the same in both the new mpeg and the mkv. Regardless, it's extremely fast and isn't heavily resource dependent. Use it, and don't bother trying to hunt down specific mpeg files.

PS3 Media Server (I don't have a link offhand, sorry) has always streamed my .mkv files fine. It needs to buffer a bit on 1080p stuff, but is very, very smooth.

Have you hacked your PS3? If so Showtime can play .mkv files.
