Know Your Realm: Results for the Tenth Vana'diel Census (06/28/2011)

    http://www.playonline.com/pcd/topics.../6731/6731.jpg

We sent our seasoned team of surveyors out into the wilds of Vana'diel, and they've finally returned with the latest data detailing practically every aspect of the realm. In addition to the always-popular statistics on the number of relic and mythic weapons in circulation, we've amassed a cornucopia of new and tantalizing trivia, including-but not limited to-figures for existing Empyrean weapons and armor as well as the amount of Empyrean seals and upgrade items relinquished by enemies!

Furthermore, for the first time in Vana'dielian history, we'll be divulging some numbers we crunched regarding monster activity! They may defy all your expectations, so be sure to check them out!

Read on for the census results.

    ----

    Introduction
On May 16, 2011, FINAL FANTASY XI celebrated the nine-year anniversary of its launch in Japan!

It has been two years since the last Vana’diel Census, and in that time, the add-on scenarios A Crystalline Prophecy, A Moogle Kupo d’Etat, and A Shantotto Ascension have been released, as well as the battle area add-ons Vision of Abyssea, Scars of Abyssea, and Heroes of Abyssea. After almost six and a half years with a level 75 ceiling, the level cap was raised, adding many new, enthralling ways for players to continue enjoying the game. And in March, the official forums went up, allowing players to communicate with the development and operations teams more closely than ever.

This year, to better understand the shape of the ever-evolving community, we’ve added new research points and analyzed the data from every angle. With no further delay, let’s take a look at the current state of the FINAL FANTASY XI community.

    * All research (other than login distribution data) is based upon data obtained in May 2011.

    Login Distribution
The graph below represents the login data for the third week of April 2011. The simultaneous logins show that there are always a considerable number of players logged into FINAL FANTASY XI at any time, this number increasing at the peak hours of each region.

    Jobs
In June 2010, the level cap was raised for the first time in six and a half years. This year’s census looks at how job demographics have changed over the past two years. Let’s take a closer look at the main job level distribution and the popular job rankings.

The graph below details the level distribution of main jobs from level 2 to level 90.

The first thing you will notice when looking at the graph is that level 90 characters make up 15.56% of all players. This is about the same percentage of players who were at level 75 at the time of the last census. The second highest number of players is at level 5. This can most likely be attributed to players hoping to make their dreams come true through the Mog Bonanza, with the new ability to deliver exclusive items to other characters on the same account.

One can see that the percentage of characters at level 37 has decreased, with levels 40, 45, and 50 showing increases. This can be attributed to the level cap increase allowing for higher support job levels, as well as experience points becoming more readily obtainable.

EDIT: Actually you know what, I can't copy pasta everything because they use a whole lot of tables and shit. bleh

    some random tidbits.

Next, we move to mythic weapons, which have also increased somewhat since the last census, if not to the degree of relics. While we expect to see a rise in popularity changes after the planned Aht Urhgan adjustments, at the present most mythic weapons remain extremely rare. Who could become the very first brave adventurer in Vana’diel to obtain the axe Aymur?
Since there's an Aymur around already, I'm guessing it missed the data collection by a week or two.

    ...

    other cool / lols..

Sand Sweeper is the new HNM XD

I love the new categories and lists.. especially the pets and food thing..

...and I'm not familiar with Odin LS.. but jeez.. 57 relics, 7 mythics and 98 empyreans in the same LS >_>

    and LOL

Ragnarok, home of the rich snobs. Apparently the richer you are the more GM calls you make.

I love in the list of most dangerous mobs, the Goblin Smithy somehow snuck into the middle there.

Heh-heh. It made 69. How appropriate for the codpiece it wears.

5,173 bro-nagi vs. 2,894 brosamune? I honestly thought those numbers would be much closer together.

I see they missed the fact there's an Aymur out there now.

Changing gears for a moment, we move on to the top twenty most popular pets.
The impressive Nursery Nazuna took first place. Its immense popularity stems from its high attack power and low cost, as well as the fact that players are able to call Nazuna starting at level 76. In second place, Dipper Yuly seems to especially appeal to beastmasters for its astounding evasion rate and high treasure drop rate.
    and high treasure drop

Hmmmm, so thats proven it has TH3 at least then?

How did BST go from 15 to 9? Now SE wont make changes to it since SE thinks it's a good job now. Gtfo my BST.

Seriously, who is still using BLM/WHM these days?

Still interesting to see the original jobs are still the most popular, so many gdamn BLMs >.x; All teals too.

    Max MP and INT go!

    lol warding circle.

lol staffs, hey SE, make staffs worthwhile.

    WotG progress is pathetic.

Whats up with people buying all the mini expansions, and not even starting the qeusts lol.

Amazing to see how much activity Abyssea has drum up.

Ive never seen one ever complain about gil on Ragnarok. I think everyone on the server has atleast 10m lol.

Good read. Some of the new categories are really nice. I wonder how long the data period goes back for the LSs that are listed at 244 members. Has to go back a few years to cover those who have quit... right?

Isn't this easily tested? Since any THF in party can upgrade the TH effectiveness, couldn't you let Yuly attack first then put a 89- THF (w/o TH gear) to see what he upgrades the TH to? If he upgrades it to TH4, the Yuly has TH3. If he not, can immediately debunk and assume TH1/2. Need a 44- THF to test further. If THF upgrades TH to 3 then Yuly had TH2. If he upgrades to TH2 then Yuly only has TH1.

Problem is DipperYuly can spawn as level 89 or 90, So you'd have to run a few tests to be absolutely certain.

but it could be tested easily

    Observations:
    * Well, this explains why it's so much easier to get Empyrean NMs during NA times than JPs, lol
    * I love how many THFs have 5/5 Flee recast.
    * There are way too many Dancers with 5/5 Step Accuracy and Fan Dance
    * 6 new Claustrums, lol
    * Really shocking number of new Mythics, but we have to remember that is within the last 2 years. Also, it doesn't seem to be accurate (claims 0 Aymurs made, when we know there has been 1)
    * Wow, the number of Empyreans made really puts the difficulty of obtainment into perspective. More Empyreans than WoE path weapons, it seems. Well, they count Level 80s too, but still!
    * There are more level 85/90 Verths than most of the less popular AF3+2 armors, and more level 90s than some.
    * Apparently I'm a minority for having any BST AF3+2.
    * Poor samurai, how far you've fallen.
    * I'm pretty sad that Squid Sushi made the top-3 for foods.

Lots of cool info. Fucking lol that more people have capped Staff merits than Bow. Also fucking lol at the pathetic number of staff upgrades across the board. There was only 1 SCH staff done or something and 40~ 90 emp staves?

    ALL HAIL SANDSWEEPERS !

I still eat lots of Sushi as MNK tho. There are enough Abys mobs that somehow fuck with your Accuracy, so eating Sushi reduces your damage taken with Counterstance notably.
