    Crimson Alliance

    http://www.destructoid.com/certain-a...e-202349.phtml

Certain Affinity has announced Crimson Alliance for Xbox 360. Why does it always have to be crimson? There are plenty of other shades of red.

Crimson Alliance is a roleplaying game that aims to do away with boring RPG staples in order to create a quicker, more action-packed experience.

"It takes everything we've learned about high action from working on shooters like Halo and Call of Duty," claims the studio, "and everything we love about the fantasy genre, but gets rid of all that tedious backpack rummaging, and boring dialog!"

It'll feature four player co-op and Certain Affinity says it's exclusive to the 360.
Guess we'll see more at E3.

So it's just another generic action game?

Sounds pretty interesting, the face on the logo makes me think it'll be awful for some reason though... but either way, 4 player bro-op in an action RPG? Sign me the fuck up.

Indeed, not much here to get excited about until we see the game but the 4 player co-op in an RPG has me excited. Doesnt sound generic to me really.

I'll keep the OP updated the best I can, watching over this and revelations.

Buy These Five Summer of Arcade XBLA Games, Get One Free
You could be on the receiving end of a "free" copy of co-op dungeon crawler Crimson Alliance, pictured above, Xbox 360 owners, if you go all-in on this year's "Summer of Arcade" games for Xbox Live Arcade. What's on the list?

It's a pretty good one, including graphically beautiful games like Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet and the terraforming god sim From Dust. There's one sequel, one original role-playing game and one Kinect-only Xbox Live Arcade game on the list, touchscreen game turned karate chopping experience Fruit Ninja Kinect.

If you buy all five, an investment of 5600 Microsoft Points, Microsoft will throw in Crimson Alliance—an enjoyable Diablo or Torchlight alternative—for free when that game hits on September 7. Here are the dates and details.

    July 20 - Bastion (1200 Microsoft Points)
July 27 - From Dust (1200 Microsoft Points)
August 3 - Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet (1200 Microsoft Points)
August 10 - Fruit Ninja Kinect (800 Microsoft Points)
August 17 - Toy Soldiers: Cold War (1200 Microsoft Points)
If you don't want to buy at least one of the above, maybe you'll want to buy the giveaway game when it ships:

September 7 - Crimson Alliance (1200 Microsoft Points)

I've been personally excited for Crimson Alliance ever since first playing it at E3 2011. Now only a couple weeks from release, we have exclusive details on the unique pricing options Microsoft and developer Certain Affinity are offering with this Xbox Live Arcade hack-n-slash.

Crimson Alliance is a co-op-focused action-RPG that features three classes -- the sword-wielding mercenary, the magical wizard, and the stealthy assassin. If you want to be able to freely choose between these classes, you can download the regular edition of the game for 1200 Microsoft Points ($15).

However, here's where things get interesting: If you're one of those people (like me) who knows for sure that you're only going to be playing one class, you can download a single class pack for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Individual class packs will be available to download for all three classes, and they will include full access to every level in the game and four-player co-op with friends -- you'll just personally be restricted to playing whichever class you downloaded the pack for.

Crimson Alliance producer Tom Potter explained the reasoning behind the myriad of options for paying for the game:

"We wanted to provide more options when buying Crimson Alliance. With the individual Class Packs, you experience the entire game as one class, at a lower price. So if you are the type of person that plays as a Wizard character in every game and no other, you have the option to buy just that character. On the other hand, if you want to play as all three characters, you have the All Class Pack option. Either way, you get the entire campaign and hours and hours of intense, action-RPG gameplay."

As an RPG player who almost always plays as a warrior, I think this is a pretty brilliant payment model. I can pay $15 to get access to every class or just grab the class I know I'll want to stick with anyway and save 5 bucks.

In addition to the pricing news, Certain Affinity shared a new trailer showcasing Moonshade, the Assassin character. Check it out below and see if it's enough to convince you to just get the Assassin Pack. Alternatively, for a lengthier look at Crimson Alliance, check out the 25-minute preview theater video we created.

Reminder, it's out today. Free if you bought the summer of arcade titles or something. The way they ended up doing it is a bit odd. The "Full Game" is 'free', and then you pay for character unlocks. Each character is 800 points (ten bucks) or 1200 for all 3 (15 bucks). So if you only want wizard you download the full game, and then buy the Wizard unlock, etc.

PSA: 'Free' Crimson Alliance download isn't the full game
It may be thrilling to see the "full game" of Crimson Alliance available on XBLM for free -- you may think it's a pricing error on Microsoft's part -- but that's just how the game works. It's not actually the full game.

We knew that Crimson Alliance would be available either as an 800 point single-character pack or a 1,200 point download with all three; what we're just now learning on release day is how Microsoft is handling that.

The "full game" is available for free, presumably so everyone online is playing the same base game. But that free download only includes "trial characters," and warns the player upon character creation that "You are creating a Trial Character. Game content will be limited for this character." There are prompts ... everywhere to buy the characters for 800 points each.

This model of giving the game away for free, but severely limiting it, almost makes Crimson Alliance the first freemium game on XBLA, which already offers free trials for all games.

[Thanks to everyone who emailed us about this.]
