NFL Week 5: A quarter season look at our predictions

My pre-week1 predictions for the season
    Spoiler: show

AFC East: New England Patriots good

    AFC North: Baltimore Ravens good

    AFC South: Indianapolis Colts lol

AFC West: San Diego Chargers remains to be seen

Wild Cards: Houston and Miami NO!

Notes: The NFL has, since '96, at least 5 new playoff teams from the previous year, so yeah, I reached on Houston and Miami. Also, Pitt has failed to reach the playoffs the season following their last three superbowl births.

    NFC East: Philadelphia lol

    NFC North: Green Bay good

    NFC South: Atlanta good

    NFC West: St. Louis lol

Wild Cards: Detroit and New Orleans good

Notes: I'm all in on the Detroit hype. The offense has the potential to be electric if both Stafford and Best can stay healthy. This seeding will give us 5 new playoff teams from last season in Houston, Miami, San Diego, St. Louis, and Detroit.

Coach of the Year: Jim Schwartz, Detroit Lions good
Comeback POY: Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions good
Defensive ROY: Von Miller, Denver Broncos ehhhh
Offensive ROY: Mark Ingram, New Orleans Saints ehhh
Defensive POY: Ndamukong Suh, Detroit Lions we'll see
Offensive POY: Phillip Rivers, San Diego Chargers ehhhh
MVP: Phillip Rivers, San Diego Chargers ehhhh

AFC Championship: Houston v San Diego we'll see
NFC Championship: Atlanta v New Orleans we'll see

SuperBowl: San Diego defeats New Orleans we'll see

Overall, not too bad. Obviously whiffed on the Colts (pre Manning announcements) and the Dolphins (as usual).

    SUN, OCT 9

Tennessee at Pittsburgh - Pitt seems to play well off a loss, yet the've had a case of the injury bug bite. Harrison is out, Mendenhall won't practice all week and he's questionable, and Big Ben is banged up, but nothing really new there. If Tennessee were at home, I'd be tempted to take them for the win, but I like Pitt to get up for this game. Should still be a pretty decent game though. Pitt wins.

Seattle at NY Giants - Seattle is awful, god awful. They're playing on the road against a red hot Eli Manning. Yeah, I went there. Seattle doesn't get the 12th man benefit in the Meadowlands. NYG run away with the game.

Cincinnati at Jacksonville - Happy birthday Headspace. The Bengals still suck even if they beat the AFC elite last week. Your fantasy team is going to get crushed along with your fantasy team.

New Orleans at Carolina - I think this week's lineup of games is going to make of for the last two weeks of complete shit we've gotten on TV. New Orleans have played two teams with above average offenses and allowed over 30 points each tilt. I don't know if Carolina is an above average offense, but they are certainly able to put points on the board. Enough points to beat a Drew Brees led team? Nah.

Oakland at Houston - Houston is likely going to be without Andre Johnson after a hamstring injury. I think that's going to hamper the offensive production. Houston also allows an egregious ypc for opposing backs. Look for DMC to have a huge game in a potential upset. I'll call houston to win a very very close game.

Philadelphia at Buffalo - Hmm...Good matchup for Fitzy going against a philly secondary that is allowing a surprising amount of passing yards and allow highly efficient QB play (over 100 QB rating). I think Philly needs this game much much more than Buffalo is going to want it. Philly is a 2.5 point favorite, and I don't think that's really a good line. I'll take Philly to win, but I think it would be an upset.

Kansas City at Indianapolis - KC actually won a game last week right? For the second week, KC will be facing a winless team. Can KC pull off two straight wins? I don't think so. Painter might (should) get another week with the first team offense. While he didn't light up TB, he didn't play horribly. I like Painter in this matchup against KC and Indy to pull out their first win.

Arizona at Minnesota - For all of the Vikings faults, they've played some pretty damn close games against some decent teams. I don't know what they have to do to get off the skid, but I think they may be able to pull it off this week. I can't imagine Beanie Wells playing well again without blowing up a hip or vertebrae. I like Minnesota to get their first win here, leaving the Fins and Rams as the last teams without a win.

Tampa Bay at San Francisco - We talked about the San Fran defense last week, and it held up last week. They held a RB that was tops in the league in rushing to his season low. That defense is fo' real. If Tampa wants to win this game, they're going to have to do it on the shoulders of their passing game, which hasn't exactly been prolific this season. I like the niners to continue their surprising success.

NY Jets at New England - Wow, I though this was a primetime game...I hope to hell it's televised here. Through four games, we've found that the Jets run game isn't what we thought it was, Sanchez is what we thought it was, and the Jets are pretty damn mediocre. With all that said, Sanchez should have a pretty good game against a pretty weak pass defense, however, Wilfork should have a pretty good chance on nabbing one of the 3 or 4 INTs that Sanchez is sure to throw right to the defense. It's a conference game, so I'm reluctant to call a blow out, but Brady has been waiting for payback since last year's playoffs. It's going to be a blowout.

San Diego at Denver - Did the NFL just feel extremely sorry for the Chargers early season woes that they decided to just line up sock puppets for opponents the first 5 weeks. If they continue to get better as the season goes on, as usual, San Diego could actually get a bye in the playoffs. Wouldn't that be amazing!

Green Bay at Atlanta - Thankfully for Matty Ice, this game is at home, and against a team that has been horrible against the pass. They've allowed the 2nd most passing yards in the league, although the Patriots are worse, and both teams seems to be doing just fine. Matty Ice should have a really good game and I think that offense is capable of keeping up with Green Bay, and they have a good enough run game to slow the game to a pace they like. I'll take Atlanta to hand Green Bay their first loss.

    MON, OCT 10

Chicago at Detroit - If nothing else, Chicago has been really good against the pass and Detroit doesn't really have an answer in the run game. Best isn't someone who can put a team in his back for 20+ carries and 120+ yards. Detroit defense hasn't been slouchy either, allowing under 900 yards on the season with passer efficiency less than 75. I trust the Detroit offense at home much more than I trust the Chicago offense's ability to keep up. The detroit fucking lions are the last undefeated team in the NFL.

In for the weekly criticism, before page 5 this time.

Thanks Firefox for crashing as I was about to hit post, making me re-type this again

Tennessee at Pittsburgh - Not (entirely) a homer pick, the Titans pass rush is legit, the Steelers O-line is not.

    Seattle at NY Giants

    Cincinnati at Jacksonville

New Orleans at Carolina - Trap game in theory, doubt it will end up like one

Oakland at Houston - The main reason I pick Oakland is because I want them to win this game so the Titans have the overall division lead, but I think they can win this one legitimately anyway.

Philadelphia at Buffalo - What's Vick hurt this time, aside from the ego?

    Kansas City at Indianapolis

    Arizona at Minnesota

    Tampa Bay at San Francisco

NY Jets at New England - Either going to be slaughter or a close game, if the Jets show up. I predict slaughter.

    San Diego at Denver

Green Bay at Atlanta - Atlanta can show up in this game and prove they aren't a bust this year, especially against the team that routed them in the playoffs.

Chicago at Detroit - Lions until they lose, which seems like it may not be for a couple more weeks. Kind of scared after last week's first half though, albeit against a pretty good offense.

Tennessee@Pittsburgh - Pitts gonna pitts, going to be a close game cause pitts suck and titans looking decent.

    Seattle@NY Giants - lolsuperchickens

Cincinnati@Jacksonville - I hate jacksonville more than i hate the clots. and for no reason.

    New Orleans@Carolina - Pretty one-sided

Oakland@Houston - Homer, but, you know.. they only have 1 win against us out of like.. 6? and we're 3-0 against them without Andre.. hopefully Jacoby Jones doesn't suck it up.

Philadelphia@Buffalo - Money on vick getting hurt and the iggles get the clots-effect (team just breaks apart)

Kansas City@Indianapolis - Thinking painter finds wayne and garcon more.

    Arizona@Minnesota

    Tampa Bay@San Francisco

    NY Jets@New England

    San Diego@Denver

    Green Bay@Atlanta

    Chicago@Detroit

Tyche, you realize that the niners gave up over 100 on the ground right? Their defense and team got really lucky with poor performances and bad decisions (what the fuck Ronnie brown).

I'm mostly interested in MNF and wondering how Cutler survives

    Last Week: 12-4
    Season: 43-21

Tennessee at Pittsburgh - The Steelers are in shambles. Defense is banged up. Slothlisberger is banged up. I think they are going to get punched in the mouth at home and Tomlin is going to get in some asses after the game.

    Seattle at NY Giants

    Cincinnati at Jacksonville

    New Orleans at Carolina

Oakland at Houston- No Andre Johnson? No problem. Arian Foster got this. Foster vs Run DMC. I think this one comes down to the defense and Houston has greatly improved in that area. With the passing of Al Davis, I think the Raiders will have a litte exta emph to push them over the edge. I previously thought the Texas would marginally win this game without Dre', but with the Raiders playing even more inspired, I think they'll win one for the Skipper. Everyone on the Raiders will be running at sub 4.4 speeds throughout the entire game. R.I.P. Al Davis.

Philadelphia at Buffalo - Buffalo started hot, but I think last week's game showed us that they are pretenders. Philly isn't doing much either, but I think they will find a way to win and not fall to 1-4.

    Kansas City at Indianapolis

Arizona at Minnesota - I think Peterson needs to take the Keyshaun approach and just tell the Vikings to "give me the damn ball!"

    Tampa Bay at San Francisco

NY Jets at New England - Part of me wants to pick the Jets. This is the game they've been looking forward too all year. But with the loss of Bryan Thomas and the ridiculous SNF offensive performance, I just don't think the Jets can keep up.

    San Diego at Denver

Green Bay at Atlanta - I was going to pick this as an upset pick, but how can it be one if 3 people that posted before me also picked Atlanta.

Chicago at Detroit - Suh-per Bowl bound? We'll see if the Lions can handle the big stage of a MNF game against a division rival. 2 historic 2nd half comebacks in the last 2 games. They can't continue to take the 1st half off or they'll eventually fall into a hole that they can't get out.

I wouldn't just say it and not mean it. I wouldn't have said the rangers or mavericks were finishing last, because they are actually good. I even said after game two of round one of the NBA playoffs that Dallas and Miami were going to the finals. I did cheer on the heat, cause I hate Dallas lol.

Tyche, how can you say ATL is good to win the south at this point? I see N.O. taking a hold of that division easily with how shitty ATL is playing, ATL needs to step their game up if they want to secure that wildcard spot this year, not to mention as shitty as TB has been playing compared to the expectations they're still ahead of ATL right now in the South.
