Fictions, Inc. was founded earlier this year, and aside from this has published only one other title to release: a vapid party game for the LEGO Group called "LEGO Party!". Inspiring.

It's marketed as a souls-like that misses the mark. It's an action RPG that doesn't add anything new to the genre. Many of the reactions feel GameFreak brought as much effort to the game as they put into the Pokemon games (just enough).

I played a bit. It does kinda feel like budget Nier I guess. Also, at least this has VA, even though characters still look pretty emotionless when talking lol. I plan to continue because I'm intrigued by the world and story though.

Basically saying that it needed to adapt and advance to current trends/excellence to succeed.

GI's big gripe was that, while the combat is awesome, the game does everything it can to peel you away from it. Pace is shit. Every sequence is disrupted with 10min cutscenes with super vapid exposition and tired saw-that-coming-a-mile-away plot revelations. This is a game we've seen iterated 10 times -- better than this -- in the last 5 years. Still, it's incredible to see GF trying anything not-Pokemon, especially without Nintendo. A decent first foray away from their "wheelhouse". If it leads to (their vast sums of capital being used for) other ventures, I'm for it!

GameFreak have made either Pokemon games or extremely low budget shovelware. Many would argue that their recent Pokemon games are also low budget shovelware.

This had a really big budget and tons of production. It's the most ambitious thing they've ever made by a mile. Sounds like it still might be shovelware though lolol
