Prequel to the John Carpenter 1982 film.
Looks pretty good, although I doubt it can live up to the original. And a fair helping of Mary Elizabeth Winstead doesn't hurt.

As much as I love the original and wish they wouldn't touch it at all, I don't see how you can screw up a movie like this. So I assume this is the tale of the Norwegians that discovered "the thing" that were shown documented in the first film? MEW is a big plus (swoon) but I just hope they give me more of that parasite eve crap (gory transformations) from the first w/o the cgi effects. Stan Winston/Bottin onry please!
Looks good.
What I really wanna see is that Apollo 18 film but that shit keeps getting pushed back :/
I don't know how they can really make a story good enough to make me want to watch it, we all know everyone dies.
Spoiler: show
Looks ok. Kind of following the same exact formula as the original, but then again, not like it has any other direction to go. Anyone recall seeing a YouTube video about the first movie, in which the author of the video, dissected the plot?
It was a very interesting analysis but the video got taken down for some reason.Spoiler: show
So I was looking at my local theatre listings and noticed this film on it and didn't even know it was out lol. I don't think I ever saw a commercial for it or maybe they didn't run it enough? Came out last week. Anyone seen it? Think I'll check it out this weekend.
Based on the trailers I saw for it, it looked to be a remake rather than a prequel. But after watching this, it definitely wasn't a remake. There were a few similar scenes, but not enough to bother me. Wasn't a bad movie, but I felt it lacked some of the tension and paranoia that Carpenter's version gave me. The CGI didn't bother me as much as I thought it would, but my major complaint was showing too much of the Thing. When you can clearly see it for 5 minutes at a time, it's just not as scary.
Part of what made John Carpenter's version so creepy was that you never saw the Thing for more than a few seconds.
