skoreit.com and other pay to bid sites

I've seen a lot of these sites popping up lately while working midnights where you can "Win an iPad for 15 dollars!" ect.

Now I am fully aware of the mechanics of the site and for those who don't know work like this.

-The site charges per bid, around 50cents each time(win or lose)
-The items price goes up by 1cent every time someone bids
-The item will sell for say 20 dollars but thats 2000 bids it got which is 1000 bucks for the site with 50cent bids
-By charging per bid they can sell a $500 iPad for 20 dollars and net a profit because of charging per bid which is how they make money

Now what I'm wondering is this,.. Has anyone actually signed up for one of these sites and tried to bid smart(when the time left is in seconds) on some high priced items and actually got them? I think if you could spend 50 bucks and get an iPad it would be a steal and playing smart could possibly net you some nice items for a lot cheaper then retail.

Just wondering if anyone had any experience or know of anyone who used those sites.

If you ever go to one of these sites and spend money you're a fucking retard. End of topic.

Every time the bidding is about to end and somebody new bids, it adds 30 seconds to the end of the auction or something similar.

Not that that matters, since there'd still be hundreds of bids made at the last second, by idiots who think they can win by "bidding smart", as if there are people who bid any other time.

But at some point the bidding has to stop or these items will just inflate to their actual price. No doubt there there are probably ideal times to bid like 4am or something but eventually someone wins them.

I've heard of a few people who tried the site(or another one just like it) and they didn't get anything for their 20 bucks or so but one person did get a $200 iPod for only 25 bucks invested total.

I've played around with DealDash (mostly just use the free credits they give during their special auctions they have occasionally). A lot of items end up going for $80-100 which is probably good if you are able to get in at the last minute, but I'm guessing a lot of people end up paying way more than the market value since bids cost $.6. They advertise a bunch of their sub $1 auctions, but those don't come along very often (I've never seen on, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't ever real), even on not so popular items.

The auctions reset depending on how much the price is. For 1-2 dollars it resets 30 seconds per bid but on higher price items it only does 10 seconds. This makes it pretty much impossible to win any cheap bids.

Well I wouldn't be surprised if the website itself or its employees bid on the item itself to make sure that iPad doesn't sell for 2 dollars which is $400 less then market value and cost them a lot. I mean you could probably just look at finished auctions and get an idea for what price things are actually going for. If all you see is $80-90+ when iPad is actually selling then bidding around $50 would be a waste because it's going to continue to go up till around there.

What you got going with the free bids isn't too bad of an idea though.

Basically a bot is there that is programmed to bid at the last second of big-ticket items and unless you're quick enough to out-bid 10 bots bidding on the same item you will never get it. This is common knowledge and they make the majority of their money on stupid fucking idiots who pay for the right to bid on something that e-bay lets you bid on for free.

Not only do you pay to bid, you don't get your money back if you lose. So essentially you're playing at a blackjack table and paying the dealer for each card you get hoping that it adds up to 21. Then, when it adds up to 21, you pay them to get the money afterwards.

So you just spent $40 bidding on that brand new iPad that you didn't win. Fucking idiot.

The only way to win something on there is to get astronomically lucky, by bidding with low time, at inactive hours.

Any item will almost certainly be bid on up until it's very close to retail to begin with, and you will (if you continue to bid) spend way more than you should in the first place.

The site cashes in on your bids enough to sell 100 of each item (exaggeration, but you get the idea)

It's a huge scam, don't even think about it.

I still wouldn't really recommend using it, but the website I mentioned earlier (DealDash) has a period where all losing bids are returned after the event. It's usually one day and all the bids end up going to insane amounts(like only 20-30% savings) but it does happen.

Sure, but by then you've made 100 last second bids, and still lost.

I remember someone doing the math one one of those websites awhile ago and came up with a figure that they could put a 100 dollar bill up for one or two dollars and still profit even if it sold for less than 100 dollars.

offandaway.com does this with epic vacation packages, but the people that win either get insanely lucky or still spent a big chunk of change

My wife did this for Christmas on Quibids. She never went after big ticket items. Just gift cards and household items. She was able to get baking mats and a $25 Target gift card for a total of $7. Electronics? Fuck going for that shit
