Mustang (the car not you Vandole) Owners

So I was thinking of getting a new car and I was wondering if anyone on here had a newer Mustang 5.0 and could tell me how they like it. Any ever test drive one and can tell me a few things (tried to go the other day but bad storms here in NC). Any advice/opinions are welcome.

If you're really seriously looking to buy one go to your local Avis or similar and rent one for the day. They'll probably have one around 5 years old but it's still essentially the same except your 5.0 model has more power. Spend the whole day going to dealers and doing test drives lulz. I'm not a mustang kind of guy but these new ones from the past half decade aren't that bad.

Yeah I went around yesterday driving different cars (I currently have an Evo) but I ended up driving everything but a Mustang (new Camero SS, Corvette, Sti, etc etc). Only reason I am thinking about getting another car is the fact I got royally fucked on my finance company/rate, first time buyer etc. I owe about 20k~ on payoff for my car, so I can either trade it in for a car owe about the same or try and refinance my car now.

I had a 2011... its fun to drive in straight lines but anything else would have to mod. Love my vette much more.

edit: although if your into mods the mustangs parts are waaaay cheaper than vettes.

Thinking of getting a performance saloon that isn't an Ultimate Driving Machine? You be insane.

should be in the same price range as the Mustang, but unlike said horsecar it understands the twisty things at the end of straight lines. And it looks better.

And with 75 less horse, it'll still beat the GT in the 1/4 mile.

    mustangs traditionally have:

    heavy engines + rear-wheel drive

    which equals:

REALLY shitty control in rain or snow.

They look bad ass though. I'd rent one, that was a good idea. Maybe the newer ones are better but I doubt it.

yeah, you'll definitely want a second car with FWD/AWD if you live anywhere that gets snow on a regular basis. my first car was a '90 mustang hatchback, lost control in a snowstorm and took out a utility pole with it, hah.

RWD isn't the problem. RWD is the norm for performance cars.

FWD is good for cheap boring going-to-the-shops boxes, because it's cheaper... but you don't want FWD in a ~400HP monster: the understeer would drive you mad or kill you, whichever comes first.
4WD is great offroad/in slippery conditions, but on normal roads it's wasted weight... and added unnecessary cost.

Of course, any RWD car is going to have trouble on snow; though modern traction control largely compensates in that area, this isn't the 70s anymore.

No, the problem is that american car design philosophy is "ayep, we's gonna put a big engine in that (vulgar) box. A 'chassay'? Wuzzat?"
So, obviously, the car arrives to a corner and is left puzzled.

Ya I can tell just about everyone in this thread is living in the past when it comes to generalized statements about car makers. American car makers have progressed quite nicely in the last couple years, especially Ford. Go test drive a new Focus... Nonetheless, the new 5.0 is not a slouch in the handling. Yes, it is still a heavy vehicle and with 1-2K in suspension mods will turn it into a track animal. The new 5.0 is essentially the best performance bang for your buck on the market, period. I'm going to hope whoever compared the 1M to a 5.0 is on crack or trolling cause the price isn't even close to a 5.0. A 1M you won't even be able to find new and used will be near impossible. If you do from a dealer, it'll probably still have ADMs all over it while dealers cant push the 2012s fast enough onto you to make room for 2013s.

OP, obviously go test drive it. If you like the big V8 exhaust note, you will become intoxicated. But essentially right now for the next 3-4 months, dealers should be letting a brand new go for invoice or less depending on factory incentives.

Ugh. Is that a goddamn hatchback I see? Blegh. Stick with the Mustang if the other option is a hatchback, and this is coming from an SS owner. Mustangs can't corner simply because of the old suspension. The 2013's are finally upgrading their suspension, and the Boss will use one similar to the 2011 and up Camaro, which corners easily (I should know; I own one) Its not magnetic-ride, but it doesn't need to be, as you aren't cornering at 75+ mph anyway.

Beamers are nice (many are REALLY nice), but if you want something that looks unique (model-wise: all beamers share the same grill, essentially the same front and rear fascias and lights, and the sweeping majority of their internals, while only a stang looks like a stang, ect.), get a Stang.

The biggest thing about car buying (not leasing) is to go with your gut. Try everything out and get what your gut tells you to get. All your friends and all of us forum guys can pump your head with tons and tons of rhetoric, but at the end of the day, it'll be all about you when you're either dealing with buyer's satisfaction, or buyer's remorse, and with a brand new car and brand new payments, you don't want to be experiencing buyer's remorse 2 weeks in.

I'll make fun of ricers all day with their fart cans, but at least they know what they want and go full throttle. Though they need full throttle to keep up with traffic... I KEED I KEED

It's the angle of the pic. The 1M has less butt than the average BMW. Nothing like those 3 series compacts tho. Never liked the look of those.

Yet again, another thread full of people trying to shove their opinions down the OP's throat. Guy wants to hear opinions about a Mustang, who cares if you think another car is better.

Best advice is to just go test drive one. I shopped around for a while on my Camaro and looked at several other cars, but none of them really felt as good as the Camaro. Things that are very similar in specs will also have a completely different feel to them.
