    Knee problems

I know BG has a lot of users from a variety of backgrounds so I thought this would be a place to ask for some help.

About 7-8 months ago I was at work carrying about 5lbs down some stairs when I heard and felt a pop in my right knee. I had mild-moderate pain when walking and sitting down/standing up but that was only on the outside portion of my knee. I went home, iced it and took some aspirin. My knee was tender with some mild-moderate pain sitting down and standing up for about a couple weeks.

For 6 months after that the pain was slight if at all but recently I've been having more and more pain when I use my right leg to carry the majority of my weight. Walking is not an issue although running causes some discomfort. Every time I use my right leg to push myself to a standing position or let my right leg carry the majority of my weight while sitting. I have moderate-high pain to the outside of the kneecap. The pain is concentrated to one spot and does not move.

I plan on going and having an MRI/X-ray done this week, I'm just wondering if these symptoms are common for any specific injuries or tendonitis/arthritis.

Not sure why you didn't immediately get an MRI 6 months ago. It sounds like a minor something, what it is requires more information.

Did your knee swell, did it swell quickly or was it more gradual over the course of a few days, do you have pain when you wake up or is the pain caused by activity only.

Yeah I'm kicking myself for not going for an MRI when it initially happened. I had no real noticeable swelling when it initially happened or the days after. No pain in it when I wake up(unless you count standing to get out of bed), only caused by activity.

Part of me wants to say your patella dislocated, just not into a terribly painful position, but just enough to cause that pain when you're active. But yeah, getting it looked at will do more than speculating. And I don't mean just letting a doctor look at it and poke, get it MRI'd or x-ray'd as you intend. I never really got that when I was a kid and hurt my knee. To this day, I think a lack of solid diagnosis still haunts me when my knee decides to act up.

any pain that lasts for more than a couple of days and doesn't get better should be checked by a doctor.

your injury could range from a patellar dislocation, to a meniscus tear, to an ACL tear - anything with a 'popping' feel or noise IS worse than simple tendonitis. If you're favoring your leg, it definitely is something that needs to be corrected. It will eventually jack up your hips and back if you're constantly favoring one side.

    I can attest to this.

Thanks for the answers. I'm heading to the doctor's office at 1 EST for a referral for an MRI. Will post what the doc says(if it's new and/or helpful) when I'm done.

Really...5 pounds? I tore my ACL in sept so its probably nothing that serious. Though usually a pop is a tear. You would notice some serious instability if something was torn so i wouldnt worry too much. Im still rehabbing hope you're ok.

Just got back from the doctor, only thing he really said was that it's possible it could just be tendon inflammation because of the long break between strong pain occurrences. He prescribed me some ibuprofen and told me to ice. Going to follow his advice for 1-2 days and see if the pain continues at this strength. If so, I'll take this MRI order and have one done(I don't have insurance so that's another reason I'm going to wait).

P.S. I know the 5lbs doesn't really matter but I thought I'd give all the details of how it happened.

On the subject, I pop my knees daily everyday like someone who pops their fingers. Been doing this for about 9 years or so (since freshman in highschool) recently I'm having the same problem at the OP.

The pain is moderate but sometimes (something the OP didn't describe) when I pivot off the knee in question, I feel as if ONE DAY it's going to catch and I'm going to pull knee out of position and it's going to hurt like a fuck. Would doctors be able to fix this or does it sound like I've just been screwing with my knee and no immediate action can be done until something serious is done.

edit: the number one cause of pain is sitting with my leg crossed (the bad knee crossed) if I'm stand up immediately from switching that position I can't walk for a good 10 seconds.

I just had to say this thread made me picture a squirrel with a bad knee in my head and it was hilarious. I feel bad for the OP knee problems suck.
