Article regarding correspondence pulled from Bin Laden's home in the raid. One of the quoted letters he was waiting to send out was regarding which news station to deliver their taped message to in America for the 10th anniversery of 9/11 and from it, he says:

As far as the American channel that could be used to deliver our messages, whether on the tenth anniversary or before or after, in my personal opinion there are no distinct differences between the channels from the standpoint of professionalism and neutrality…From the professional point of view, they are all on one level except (Fox News) channel which falls into the abyss as you know, and lacks neutrality too.

That Americans are starting to wake up and realize that the American view point is not the only acceptable view point? That they are waking up and realizing that the American way of life doesn't blend homogeneously with all cultures previous ways of life?

Don't get me wrong - violence is never the answer, especially the type of violence Bin Laden used against civilians with no warning. But in the sense that Churchill is saying, "Yeah, I can see why Muslims around the world would find reason to harbor a deep dislike / hatred for Americans and the American way of life."

Muslims have justifiable reasons to dislike Americans and its okay for Americans to admit, "Yeah we may have offended their culture and intruded into their region at times" and I frankly think that you're doing an equal service and honor to the fallen of 9/11 by admitting that wrong and working to not offend them in the future (so as to not provoke more attacks and killed Americans) as the service and honor you do when you hunt down and kill the people that attacked us.

Retribution against those who did the first massive attack - but also learning why those attacks occurred in the first place and working to generate a better relationship with the Muslim world so as to avoid future attacks.

I would say when its happened enough to piss off a group of radical Muslims into killing 3,000 of your citizens and another several thousand of your military troops, then yes, clearly it has happened enough to be significant and meaningful. Not necessarily positive, but meaningful.

I was asking if you thought Americans were "starting to wake up and realize that the American view point is not the only acceptable view point" which would imply a positive trend.

The events are obviously meaningful but if they simply foster more conflict and cultural alienation we're no closer to any kind of peace or mutual understanding. There's certainly nothing going on that would make me think such progress was being made or that it even could be made.
