FFXIV freezing on the PS3?

Just curious if anyone else is having this issue.

Three times now the game has frozen up. The first time I could hit the ps button and quit game, the next two times I couldn't. The first two, my character was just standing there, the third time was when I changed classes. All three incidents happened in Revenant's Toll.

Just wondering if other ps3 users are having this issue, or if my ps3 is dying.

My friend has a first generation PlayStation 3 and is having the same issues as you. He is actually going to download the PC version and play that from now on. I laugh at him because I told him to do that from the very beginning ! Anyway, you're not the only person having problems and it seems to stem from the unit overheating. You may want to invest in a secondary fan or some way to remove the outer covers of your Playstation and blow a fan directly on the components.

The PS3 version is imperfect. The higher level you get, the more slowdown to expect. Its also not practical for end game to be on a PS3

Hmm ty for that info!, we actually have one of those fans you put a laptop on, but rarely use it, so I bet I could try it on the ps3.

I play on both. The ps3 is when my daughter is awake and I want to do crafting/gathering etc. That way I can sit on the couch if she wants to come cuddle and read a book or something.

If you put it that way, then yeah, its perfect to hop on and off and do really non-thought intensive things.

FATE grinding is a disaster on PS3 in North Than / Mor Dhona.

You've probably already done this, but make sure you've selected the option not to show animations of other players. Not so much needed for 4 man, but once you start getting into some of the later eight man fights those animations really hit your framerate hard. And fates.. Yeah, definitely helps with fates.

I've had a similar issue where I'm still connected and (apparently) able to still do my action rotations, but nobody else on the screen is moving and the mobs aren't moving. Its like I'm R0ing but my actions still go through. That drives me crazy on fights where I need to move around a lot.

I endgame on ps3 fine, just use legacy camera and turn all your effects off and have tons of filters on for chat and name displays. it sucks but its livable.

I'm not sweating it. Thursday I'll get my new laptop and play on that from now on. Reserving the PS3 for GTA5 and Blu Ray access.

I do enjoy playing on the PS3 though, don't get me wrong. But some nights its hard to grind and its frustrating that im not 50 yet :\

I do this with mine. It helps dissipate some of the heat away from the PS3. I lay it flat and the heat can really build up on the bottom. The fan will run right off the USB port as long as you have one free.

I've had the PS3 (slim) freeze on me in game a few times now, but oddly enough it usually happens right after I log on, i.e. while I'm still in town or while teleporting or similar. Don't recall it ever happened to me at any particularly bad time, thankfully.

Just out of curiosity, what is the reason/advantage for using legacy camera? I tried it but went back to standard, I didn't like the way my character turned when I moved the camera. Now i'm wondering if i'm overlooking something.

Stupid question, but related to this.

Is there any way a router or something could cause certain things to crash?

Starting sometime last week my computer started crashing a lot. It just crashed now 3 times in about an hour and 15 minutes.

It's possible the crashes on both could have started around the same time, but my memory is not that good.

Only thing though, it hasn't happened to my husband's laptop at all.

All three are hardwired.

yah my game has froze on me a few times. im not high lvl. and was just standing there. then BOOP frozen. i have a first gen PS3.

no freezes, but i have had a bunch of sudden crashes to the XMB while zoning, that's on an original 40gb model.

Short answer is no unless your Internet card is damaged or faulty.

Bad network data can cause crashes but your ps3 crashing and your PC crashing should be unrelated.

does anyone have problem with PS3 freezing lately? After the recent maintenance, the game would froze up on me joining FATE, checking AH, zoning or cutscene from dungeons...and theres nothing I could do except turning the ps3 off and back on again, PS button didnt even work

None here. Outside of the one bug that caused XIV to lock-up when trying to exit to XMB (which they fixed), I've only had the 3 lock-ups in first month of play (halfway into my second month currently), and they were all seemingly random. First one being it locking up after I tried to call my mount four times with nothing happening (I wasn't D/Cing, people were still running about), second was when I job-changed with a macro in a town, and third was just a random freeze when I was harvesting.

Given the horrid performance of the game in instances/FATEs, I'm surprised it's as stable as it is. Hope they plan on actually optimizing the game for PS3 rather than just applying band-aids to problems like its shit model-display priority.

[EDIT] Well, there goes lock-up #4. Just ported to Gridania, and boom.
