Doom Eternal was great but the constant deathmatch style wasn’t that ideal for me…just not my type you know. Enjoyed it a lot nevertheless.
But Dark Ages with more strategic and grounded approach? I am fucking gameeeeeeee! Can’t wait.
Yeah, 2016 was way better IMO, the cramped encounters in Eternal were kind of a clusterfuck.
This game is fucking godlike, the shield is so well implemented and gives you back an infinite resource to deal with the fodder on top of all the other things it does. This is what Eternal was missing cause they took away the pistol. I'm definitely a fan of the way combat works in this, yeah you don't have a double jump but you have sprint which is makes movement much more interesting.
i'm stoked, loved 2016 and liked Eternal a lot. game pass take the wheel
Watching iddqd play this currently and it's a lot of fun to watch. Bweigelt nailed it about the shield and how much it adds to the game.
Spoiler: show
Watching Max play and I'm really not feeling it. It has way too many mechanics like eternal did, and the music is a snoozefest or missing entirely in the bit i've watched him play. 2016 was magic because it was stripped down mechanic-wise with Mick's GOAT soundtrack. Dunno. Have to try it but I'm not hopeful right now.
They did move away from that. Basically everything drops ammo now by default. I'm not sure what he means by more mechanics, there's no chainsaw, no flamethrower, no grenades. There's just the shield and melee charges, and the shield is completely resource free.
That's what I remember hearing in reviews too - that people did not like the RPS gameplay and that it was removed
I tried getting into Eternal (never played 2016) and I hated that ammo and health was gated behind glory kills, so was running out in the very early stages, and kind of stopped playing. Is it as frustrating in this? I do have PC Game pass, so won't cost me anything to demo.
Also, how's the PC optimization? I'm running a 3080ti and Ryzen 5900x with 32gb ram. Doubt I'm getting ultra settings with that?
There's a ton of health and ammo pickups in the world and the glory kill system is super turned down. No more big animations that lock you in place for a long time, you literally just punch them and they die. Ammo seems way more plentiful to far, I haven't run out on anything a single time cause it drops from most enemies that you kill normally.
I haven't watched any of the streams but I'm pretty sure glory kills are gone.
They are kinda still there, or at least the basic idea of them is still there in that you can melee finish enemies but it's super seamless now, they just glow and you punch them and they explode, there's no interruption of gameplay. The big thing is that every time you melee you get ammo back, and you can always melee after a parry regardless of charges, and you can always finish a demon off regardless of charges. Overall this game is much more streamlined in terms of how resources work and feels much much better that eternal in that regard. The focus in on the actual fights rather than on resource management. Your rewarded with ammo, health and armour for just playing the game normally.
Glad to hear it. Game looks absolutely amazing graphically.
