Synopsis:

One of the elephants I work with was in Annie. She was in the end number, you see her cross the screen behind Annie. They paid to have her trained to roller skate (yep...roller skate) across the screen...then shot her from the ankles up and you couldn't tell she was roller skating.

Easy A director Will Gluck is in negotiations to direct a new big screen re-imagining of of the Broadway musical Annie for Sony Pictures. The movie is being produced by Will Smith and Shawn "JAY Z" Carter.

This time around the story will be set in modern times and follow the adventures of little orphan Annie as she tries to find a family to call her own. It's not confirmed but I imagine it will be a hip-hop version of the musical, which could actually be kind of cool.

Smith's daughter Willow was attached to star in the movie at one point, but not anymore. According to Variety, Gluck will revise the film's screenplay, which was originally written by Emma Thompson and then later rewritten by Aline Brosh McKenna.

Quvenzhane Wallis didn’t take home the Oscar for Best Actress but she did score her next big role.

Hours before she attended the Oscars Sunday, the 9-year-old “Beasts of the Southern Wild” star had reason to celebrate when Sony Pictures Entertainment announced that Quvenzhane has been cast in the title role of a new film adaptation of “Annie.”

“Quvenzhane Wallis is a true star and we believe her portrayal as Annie will make her a true worldwide star,” the president of production for the studio said in a statement. “She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can’t wait for audiences to further discover her.”

Quvenzhane made history this awards season by becoming the Oscars’ youngest-ever actress nominee.

“Annie” will be produced by Will Smith, his wife Jada Pinkett Smith and rapper Jay-Z. It will hit theaters during the 2014 holiday season.

I had the distinct displeasure of seeing the original "Annie 2" when they tested it out in DC.
