I don't understand why anyone would be against this though...

-Could you think of the revenue created from taxing it by the government when made legal?
-Also its been proven Marijuana is less addictive then Cigarettes and Alchohol, physically. It only has psychological addiction properties, and one could argue that EVERYTHING that results in fun/euphoria is pyschologically addictive (If you had fun once, wouldn't you want to have fun again?)
-Also if it were legal, the government could regulate it instead of drug cartels.
-It would also cut the crime rate down, and that's always a good thing.
-And lastly, marijuana was already once legal. In colonial days, one could stand on a hill in Washington, D.C. and see marijuana plants growing for miles, sort of like tobacco.

I see no reason that would counteract any of the points listed above that would allow it to be illegal.

And I'm not asking to be flamed, but could someone AGAINST the legalization of marijuana educate me on their reasons why? I just want to get the other side of the arguement's opinion.

And in case anyone is wondering I'm not a "Stoner." However I have to say I'm a little biased because I have in fact gotten high a few times, with a few meaning 5-10 times in my life.

I think there is no reason for marijuana to be illegal if alcohol is legal.

Well I guess there probably are 2 reasons.

People have been drinking alcohol since humans started agriculture (and probably sucking on fermented berries before that). And that goes for pretty much all of mankind. Almost everyone who has ever lived, drinks.

And that damn punk kids smoke weed, so grown up old white guys must crush their spirit since kids don't know whats good for them.

I'll just stick with soda, its $3 for a 11 pack. Who gives a damn about any drug, I'm not wasting my money.

It's only expensive because it's illegal, much like cigarettes are only expensive because they're heavily taxed, both directly and indirectly through the overhead cost of careful regulation.

Mass and NY are the worst.

<< Marlboro Reds. I need to quit though lol. The point is, the more the government fucks with something, espcially if they can make money off it, only hurts people in the long run. Honestly I don't see the problem with pot, make it like alchol, can't drive or be out in public with it. Let people ruin thier own lives.

As if people need an external substance to ruin their lives sometimes they do it quite well without any aid XD

The tax makes sense in the interest of the public health, if you increase the cost of consumption, less will be consumed, leading to a healthier more productive populace.

But then, this isn't exactly the world of Equilibrium. Where exactly the government has the right to regulate deleterious activies is subject to debate.
