After much searching, pinning and failures, I am left to wonder still, if custom maps (ffxi-atlas.com type maps) exist that show optimum chocobo riding routes. I ask simply because I suck at chocobo. I can get where I need to go, but I have never succeeded at any of the lost chocobo quests. 3ish exp scrolls per week (from what I have heard) is not a bad gain.

How could you not be aware of shortcuts? These are the beginner's zones, and everyone I know has known them all inside out since like level 30. I can see Yuhtunga giving people trouble, maybe like the first 3 times, but that's about it.

I'm just not aware of them. I simply take the best route I can follow on the map, in all chocobo riding zones.

Shortcuts:

La Theine - going from Ronfaure to Jugner, go just south of that one gorge and east on a line that takes you just north of the crag.

Passhow - take that little passage on the west side of the main north-south portion.

Tahrongi - there is a hidden north-south passage in the mountains at the south.

All the rest of the zones are pretty self-explanatory if you just look at the map.
