Snake was killing people for the directors seat and something something happened and Snake took off his face and it was Raiden, then Snake killed Raiden... or something

Since just about EVERYONE has failed to tell you why it's funny, I will. In MGS2, the big reason everyone was angry was because like 75% of the game you played as Raiden, who was kinda lame...since basically you buy an MGS game to play as Snake, not someone else. There's basically been a running gag ever since then about Snake and Raiden. Basically Nintendo is getting our hopes up about Snake, when in turn it will actually be Raiden.

OK...I killed the joke, but at least Septimus gets it now.

OK, that makes sense. I have never played the series so I had no clue about the Raiden switch thingie.

But I do find it funny that Snake is going to be in the same game as characters like Mario and Picachu. It would be like putting Batman on the Muppet Babies.

Despite having one of the most complex/serious story, it's one of the game that take itself the less seriously. Every character are often involved in comical situation (in trailer, but also during gameplay), without losing credibility. Seing him in Smash is still weird, but I don't think it goes against what we saw him does in the past.

Anyone catch the Metal Gear: Raiden video short on MGS3: Subsistence game? Now that's funny. Raiden tries to go back in time to kill Snake so that he can be the main character himself. Hilarity ensues. If you don't have the game, you could just youtube it.

The irony he put in it, supposedly, is the fact that Raiden can do everything that Snake can do. Sneak around, shoot people's heads off, close quarters combat, etc... but he's also a complete pussy.
