Character name changing

Heard a rumour that SE stopped this exploit, though I really can't see how.

By this I mean the procedure of deleting your toon whom's name you'd like to change, make a new character of the same name, reactivate the original character and hopefully somewhere down the line it'll ask you to rename your character because the old name has been taken.

Any kind of confirmation that this still works and perhaps a more detailed step-to-step guide would be really appreciated, thanks D:

This still works, but you will need to call SE to have the original character you deleted back, When I did it to one of mine I needed the original owners name, CC info, address and some other things. I lied and said I had moved and since changed my CC info, but I had my friends name who gave me the account, and thats all they seemed to care about.

I was under the impression all you had to do was:

- Create new, empty content ID.
- Deactivate content ID of character to be changed.
- Create character on new ID from step one. Name it the same as the deactivated character.
- Reactivate content ID. Character will be prompted to change name when logging on since their current name is now taken.

At least that's how it was explained to me long ago.

It's not an exploit per se, since Square-Enix offers the service of restoring a deleted character once.

I recently talked to SE, and you can do it more than once now.

Vince G: I have one more question for now, when you delete your account you can restore it right?
ICR Charles C: Do you mean a character or an account?
Vince G: A character
ICR Charles C: There is a possibility of restoring a character if it has been deleted for less then 12 months.
Vince G: And this is a one time deal right?
ICR Charles C: No, you can restore as many characters as you would like.
Vince G: Are you serious? Because about a year ago, I accidently deleted my main character and had it restored and they said they could only restore it once. Did the policy really change?
ICR Charles C: It has changed, but I don't know when.
Vince G: Thats exciting to know. It still takes about 2 weeks to restore though right?
ICR Charles C: There's no ETA, but give it at least a week.
