I was gonna look for the "cavetech infomercial", but this one's new. And it's video.

I'll watch this and the youtube thing when I get home (can't install the plugin for them at work).

I was skipping thru channels, and landed upon a channel that was doing there entertainment news and they said they are making the Geico "Caveman" commercial characters into a sitcom
[Same premise, they are cavemen that live in the present]

(It sounds great, but I think it might be overkill if they milk it stupidly, if done right would be a cool show to watch)

im betting the battery lasts nearly as long as the iPods, maybe more. cuz its a phone you need to have battery life or it fails. i think its pretty sweet. but the price tag is not justified.... yet. ill wait til it drops to $200 at the least.

*edit* just forgetting its more of an ipod than a phone.... im guessing the lowest itll drop is $300.

Don't forget this is Apple we're talking about. Apple lowers their prices about as often as... never? Rather than lowering their prices, Apple tends to come out with new or revamped products at the same high price (while conveniently tucking away all traces of the former product).

I love Apple computers myself but that SNL skit was still hilarious, he nailed Job's mannerisms perfectly.

edit: I seem to remember the keynote speech about the iPhone saying that the battery lasts 14 hours.

14 hours on standby is shit.

That's most likely a talk or active life of 2-3 hours.

This is seriously the most retarded idea to put into production without a significant battery capability.

Yeah, 14 hours standby is pretty bullshity.

Another thing to consider that came to mind... When I go on a trip, I have my cell phone and my iPod with me. Now I'm not afraid to run my iPod's battery into the ground, because its not like I'll die without it. Meanwhile my cell phone stays on standby and lasts over a week without recharging if I don't use it much.

However by combining the two devices into one, even if it did have a longer battery life... it removes the convenience of managing two separate batteries. Then I'd be afraid that if I listen to my music too long I might lose my only source of communication at the same time.

    Lol..

He was joking when he said 14 hour standby.

The only thing we know about the iphone life is what the iphone technical specifications say and they don't even tell you how long it can go on standby.

It is designed to let you talk for 5 hours or play audio for 16 hours.

Please do basic research(like checking the manufacturer's website) before using made up facts to bash a product.

Thats still honestly not a whole lot of battery life honestly. I still think its a cool phone, and I'm glad Apple finally came out with one. And the future versions will only get better battery-wise anyway.

Hopefully by the time they come out with the 2nd or 3rd gen I'll be out of college and working a decent job so I can actually afford it, lol.

My current nokia phone has 4 hours of talk time on the battery and I have never used it up ever... I occasionally have long talks with someone.. but that is usually at home or at work where I can take a few seconds to simply plug my phone in.

5 hours is a long time to be away from any sort of electrical outlet.

In the summer at the beach or taking a leisurely 'T' ride into boston to shop or walk around and enjoy the sun leaves me away from electrical outlets for up to 8 hours on a good sunny day.

I'm a huge texter though, my phone is always open on active mode for texting and my ipod is on seperately and they work fine.

texting + music or phone + music on a nice outdoor excursion in the warmer weather could be a problem.

in the winter my phone and ipod just go on in between classes and when boss is not around at work, so it never really depletes either.

And regardless, I don't like apple as a whole so the bash was a bit biased, but I'll at least admit that much.

Well.. I don't own an ipod and don't really want one THAT badly, not enough to have to carry yet another device around.

I plan to upgrade my phone eventually and with this I will be able to finally have an ipod too and the money is of no concern for me me of half the people that will be buying one.

You may go to the beach for 8 hours but I highly doubt you go to the beach for 8 hours and spend the entire time talking on the phone.. what would be the point of going to the beach?

Even so.. if one can afford an iPhone they can easily just buy another battery. Lithium ion batteries run anywhere from $10-$60 brand new. For an additional $120 tops and some sort of external charger to go with it you could get yourself a total 15 hours of talk time and that should get anyone through the day.

Furthermore.. if talk time is a huge issue and you can't carry or afford an extra battery or. why the fuck would you purchase ANY smartphone type device in the first place?

Cingular will sell you a motorola C139 phone that will get 11.5 hours of talk time for less than $20.
