So, Captain America is dead... and past topics as well have given me the impression that I am far from the only one here that picks up a few books every week/couple of weeks.
What are you reading? What is coming down the line that you are looking forward to?
Myself, having just kind of re-found the comics world after being pretty absent for the last few years (read quite a few growing up) i am just all over the map right now, trying to find those select few must reads.
So far, been reading the following:
• The Walking Dead ~ Robert Kirkman
Loving this entire story... sure maybe there are just tons of Zombie books out there, Zombie movies, Zombie everything, but i really feel like he is just the kind of amazing writer that can make a somewhat over saturated "genre" feel brand new. Twists and turns, great great writing.
• Invincible ~ Kirkman again!
Again, just your average boy discovers super human abilities, but Kirkman just knows how to turn something tried and true, into something amazing. Not as excited about this every few weeks as The Walking Dead, but I am definitely a fan of it.
• The Dark Tower ~ Peter David (words) / Jae Lee (pictures)
So far this looks to be an amazing 7 issue series. I have read the books, but I think even those of you that have no idea what the Dark Tower story is all about would be well off to pick this up. Jae Lee, as always is dropping amazing lines on these pages, and Richard Isanove's colors are no less impressive.
• Osamu Tezuka's Buddha (manga) Website
I just started reading these, and so far i am enjoying them. I dont read much Manga at all, and this actually seems less Manga-ish than most. Osamu Tezuka is the artist behind Astro Boy, and the original Metropolis comic.
• Shaolin Cowboy ~ Geoff Darrow (opening dialog in each issue is written by the Wachowski Brothers)
This was just an impulse buy, based solely on the fact that after flipping through a few pages, i was immediately drawn to the artwork. Surely that was because the artwork very much reminds me of Moebius's style, and Nausicaa was one of the first comics i read when i was little, and the US release had a poster by Moebius in it...
• The Pirates of Coney Island ~ Rick Spears
This is another one that sucked me in on aesthetics alone, but i have found a decent enough story to back them up.
And a few others that I am reading
The Invisibles ~ Grant Morrison
Welcome to Tranquility ~ Gail Simone / Art and cover by Neil Googe
And possibly the strangest book i have read...
Alan Moore's The Lost Girls
