    nublet WHM

I've been out of game for a while, though, I started leveling whm since I returned to game, it's currently at 47. I understand for whm while leveling the stats you should try to increase are MP > MND; however, the problem is I don't know much about increasing performance of spells. So that's why I am here, hopefully someone can answer the following for me:

    1. How would I go about increasing the amount cured over time via Regen?

    2. How would I go about increasing the damage of banish and dia?

    3. Is Dia based on the same principle as the elemental debuffs? i.e. the more int you add for the debuffs the more dot they do.

    4. Wtf is up with healing skill, it seems I can barely level it up, from 43-47 I have only gained 0.3 skill. Mind you, I've been in fairly decent parties where I don't have to spam nubs with Cure IV.

    5. Gear-wise, other than nobles and light/apollo staff, are there any other notable pieces that are a must have?

    Thanks for your help.

See the funny thing is if you hadnt posted the second post (and subsequently had me post this post) you could have just deleted the first post and moved it yourself.

Think it's funny when WHMs tune out their gear to this extent and want to maximize dia/banish damage when the WHM job's effectiveness is almost entirely determined by timing, experience and skill.

    1. you can't buy anything to adjust this
    2. weren't invited to party for dmg, ie, casting banish
    3. just cast dia and everyone in party will be happy you're casting it
    4. trying to cap healing skill on whm every level is a waste of time when it will just happen naturally
    5. so how much gil you gonna buy?

    1. How would I go about increasing the amount cured over time via Regen?

    Merits and AF2 body.

    2. How would I go about increasing the damage of banish and dia?

    MND+ and Magic Attack Bonus+.

    3. Is Dia based on the same principle as the elemental debuffs? i.e. the more int you add for the debuffs the more dot they do.

If so, I guess MND+ would increase it's DoT, but most people just seem to use it for the defense down.

    4. Wtf is up with healing skill, it seems I can barely level it up, from 43-47 I have only gained 0.3 skill. Mind you, I've been in fairly decent parties where I don't have to spam nubs with Cure IV.

Not sure if you are asking how to skill this up faster, but you could always just spam Cure 1 on yourself while seeking, or during a Besieged, cure generals and other NPCs there.

    5. Gear-wise, other than nobles and light/apollo staff, are there any other notable pieces that are a must have?[/i]

    Blessed set.

These are coming from a 42 WHM, so I may not be 100% right on all of this, just going by what I've seen.

You can only do that via Regen Potency Merits or via a Cleric's Briault.

MND+ & MAB+ will help out the Banish/Holy line of spells. The initial damage of Dia is pretty low so thats rather neglible.

Dia's DOT is a set amount per tick. The only modifier available is a Dia Wand which adds another 1hp/tick Damage and an additional ~2.5% Defense Down.

I wouldn't really worry about healing skill. Once you hit the softcap for Cure I-IV it's irrelevant. For Cure V it's a minor modifier and stacking MND+ will do you better.

I prefer a Templar's Mace/Astral Aspis combo over a Light/Apollo staff for Cures. The lvl 70 Blessed JSE set is pretty awesome and relatively affordable. 3/4 pieces in that set have Haste+ which is especially nice for recasts while the body will provide extra MDB for barspells. Cleric's Briault and Cleric's Pantaloons are also very nice to round out a WHM in endgame.

Alot of whms dont use the light/apollo's staff anymore, most I see use the Templar's Mace (+10% cure potency) and either a Divine shield (15hp 15mp 3 mnd(?)) or a Numinous Shield+1 (+15 mp +4 mnd +15 to all elemental resistances).

Wow, thanks you two for the quick responses!

edit: I was under the impression that templar is a fairly high level mace? Until then I am assuming that a healing staff or a light staff would be best.

Banish isn't really that bad to cast, is it? Especially in a decent party with a decent blinking tank, I don't have many worries about my mp. I mean haste, erase, regen and the occasional cure only takes up so much mp. So whats wrong with helping a party out by maximizing your Banish II damage from say, 20 to 100+? Of course divine skill and such are all factors in it, but since mp isn't much of a problem like I previously stated why not just through out a banish for max possible damage.

The +MND on the mace and the shield are a nice bonus for Cure V over light staff.

If you want to skill Divine, and have a good tank at your level, use Flash.
As much as you can. Starting in the 50s with the enmity- of your AF, it'll be easier anyway, try to pinpoint Flash when the nin is putting his shadow back.

Just don't use Banish, to long a cast, mp whore/dmg delt. And as said previously, cast Dia at least at the start of a fight, just to keep some track of your enfeebling skill. It can be a nightmare to catch up in the later level else.

You may have missed it, but any cure spell has the same probability of getting you a skillup, some try a lower one, Cure IV has a pretty high set of hate and should be avoided

Cleric's Briault (Lv74 armor) and Regen Merits.
Please god do not waste your Merits on enhancing Regen.

For Banish, Magic Attack Bonus. Some ppl say INT, some say MND, I've seen no tests on either. Also, if you want to increase Banish damage, get yourself a Light or Apollo's Staff (Level 51 - you'll likely be using this item to increase Cure potency anyway).

Nothing enhances the potency of Dia's damage over time effect.

See above. Dia is a static spell in terms of its status effect.

Its because healing spells don't have a resistance check when cast on player characters. The level of the spell you are casting doesn't effect the rate at which you skill up, and neither does the effect of the spell, unless it was completely resisted - like casting Cure on a normal mob. If you were to try casting a Cure spell on an undead monster however, you'd experience much better skillups (I capped my Healing skill on undead in KRT Monkburns pre-ToAU release).

Basically, the reason this skill is hard to level is because a player character won't attempt to resist the spell you're casting on them (because its a beneficial spell). Summoning skill also suffered from this aspect of skilling up before SE patched in skillups when using Bloodpacts.

Also, the friendly NPCs in besieged count as mob, and therefore have resistance checks. If you want to quickly level Healing and Enhancing skills, go spam Cure and Protect on them.

Won't be for awhile, but aquiring a full set of the Blessed gear is great for WHMs, with all the MP, MND and Haste+. Until then, you can pretty much get away with just stockpiling MP.

Because having an extra 5hp/tick on your Regen is gonna help your tanks on those big Gigaflares.

with no bar merits our tank didn't die on baha2 at all, yea he took somewhat of a beating but I don't think he fell below 500hp after a flare and he was back to full under a second anyway.

barmerits are very good in 5% of situations you will encounter. regen merits are amazing in 99% of situations you will encounter. regen blows bar out of the water in merit parties; you merit based on what you do with the job not what the other guy does with the job.

here's a fun fact: merited bar + merited regen on an aerial wyrm = I don't have to do anything to the tank so I can sit and med mp

Do you want to know why this happened? Because your tank was smart and used MDB/magic damage reduction gear.

And surprise-surprise, Barspell merits add not only a higher resistance rate against the element, but extra MDB towards that element as well. Meanwhile, you can still cast Regen 3 on your tank, and the extra 5hp/tick won't make a difference because the damage absorbed by the Barspell MBD outweighs it!

It depends. Do you merit more than you fight monsters that use powerful magical attacks?

Spending merits for the sake of meriting on an HNM-essential job like a WHM is a pretty stupid reason.

...Are you suggesting that Cure Cast Time merits are worthless or that you need to use two WHMs for everything?

And not every WHM is going to be doing Wyrms or other HNMs where the bar spells matter. An extra 25% return on Regen III isn't exactly a small difference.

(Hell, what would Red Mages give to get an extra 25% on Refresh...)

and to answer the OP: Learn to love flash for XP parties. Don't believe the "It pulls to much hate hype"

Don't forget HMP stuff, also I have been 75 WHM for about a year now and my healing magic is still about 10 points from cap. =/

If your endgame is Sky + Ground Kings and Meritpo regens are probably worth meriting.

If you want to JOL or AV or anything that casts pretty offensive stuff. Shellra V + Barspells are going to beat out regens.
