So at the risk of making a risky post about a jailer

Ok look, I know that this is gonna probably get hammered but I thought I'd throw it out there just in case. A week ago my LS was fighting Temperance. I'm sure everyone knows the whole thing where it changes weakness. Since I have blm and bst and since it takes shit for magic damage I hopped on my bst and went out.

It started in piercing form I think, was in that form for a long time, then changed to slashing. I ran in, main maneater, sub temperance (without stones stones), hit it about 5 times and realized I didn't have stones in. Put the stones in, got in one attack round and it changed to blunt. It stayed in blunt form for a considerable amount of time, then piercing for several minutes...eventually slashing. I ran in, hit it a few more times, and bam, immediate change to blunt. This happend one more time during the fight. With our small group there, over the course of perhaps a 10 minute fight it was in slashing mode for about 1 minute, and split the rest of the time fairly evenly between piercing and blunt.

Now, assuming that it *should* normally split time evenly between all three types (and I admit that considering the majority of weapons are slashing this may be an adjustment that the devs made) I found the disproportionate form times unusual.

I guess what this comes down to is me wondering if perhaps using virtue weapons that are of an appropriate type would nudge it to change. Has anoyne meleed this with a virtue weapon for considerable time? Am I COMPLETELY batshit crazy? It could concievably be something that could be used to our advantage, pushing it off a bad form onto a good one. But then again, I could be nuts and this could be just some kind of lolebonpanel.

I know it's a little wierd and completely speculative. Be nice and don't flame too much.

Eh, I've noticed that he changes at random from one to the another without a real set of damage caps. One time we can do 10-30% before a change, another time it only takes 2-5%.

But that brings up an interesting idea, I think I'll have to test that on Justice or another jailer that we have jobs that can equip the weapon from.

    I think it's completely random.

Just bring SMNs and WARs, especially ones with Tomahawk merited.

I've fought it a few times with Justice Sword equipped but didn't notice anything like that.
Temperance does like to switch modes in quite random intervals though so I guess what you saw was just coincidence.

Well, even if using Temperance Axe on JoT caused it to be vulnerable to blunt damage, how would that be important? Extend it to AV and make AV weak to blunt damage?

I'm not saying it causes it to be weak to blunt, it seemed like every time I hit it it just caused it to *change* and that change is random. I guess the advantage, were this true (and I'm not conspiratorial by nature, this just seemed like too odd a coincidence) the advantage would be being able to cycle it OFF something you don't want...IE if you are slashing and piercing heavy, bring a jailer club thingie, and whenever it goes blunt you can force it onto some other kind of weakness that you are more prepared for.

Re responses- thats more or less what I figured, but I just thought maybe people don't use those weapons much and who knows, lets see what some other folks had seen.

Just to post a weird experience I had with JoT a while ago. I had it stay in pierce mode the entire time. It even did the animation to switch several times, but stayed in piercing mode. Which happend to be amazing cause we had like 4 thf. Died quick and easy... Other times it likes to stay in blunt and spam stupid Optical Induration to piss people off.(although I honestly think thats one of the coolest moves in the game.)

Or SAM/RNG with the option to swap in a Honebami (blunt damage GK). Man, that fight is fun. ^^

Most definately! I've done 3 person JoT's in that manner... as well as zombie method >.>

    As for the latter.. BLM/RDM/BLU we just kept Bio II and Disseverment Poison on it in the room where it spawned.. took like 1-2 hrs? and lost 8-12k XP. Most fun though, mainly cause the farming run was over, and everyone else decided to leave us. ; ;

Temperance is a pain in the ass, and scan your the job in your party to know what mode to use. I swear. I'm not sure what's the condition that determine his defnse mode, but I'm pretty sure it's not even.

I tested it.... but forgot the result <_< Go me! I think it was working, but it's a 33% bonus on the damage reduction (basicaly, it goes from 100% to 66% dmg reduction for 15/30/45sec every 3min).

Not so much the DoTs, but more that BLU can simply equip Frenetic Rip (H2H), Hysteric Barrage (H2H), Disseverment (Piercing), and Vertical Cleave (Slashing) and always be in a position to damage it no matter what mode it's in. They never have to engage it unles they really want tp, can keep themselves and kiters buffer and healed, and can kite in a pinch with Crimson Cuisses.

Hand me Gravity and Refresh and i'll hand you dead JoTs.

With BLU vs Temperance; what spells do you recommend that cover all 3 types of damage?

Disseverment, Cannonball, Vertical Cleave as the core damage spells, plus Frenetic Rip (which you should have anyway for the acc bonus in a situation like this).

/thf, of course. Blu is absolutely perfect for this fight. In fact, Blu is the best DD on Hope + Justice too.
