Word won't print

I'm running '97 Microsoft Word on Vista and word shuts itself down every time I try to open the print menu (Ctrl+P, Print icon, and File: Print). It's a real pain in the ass, especially when I forget to save something.

Any suggestions? Is upgrading to a new version my only option? If I find a torrent of the latest version, will it work on my computer? Or do I need to go out and buy a new one to enter my own serial numbers and what not?

That Word program is so old I'm not surprised you're having problems. Make sure you right click on it and set compatibility mode to Windows 95 (Or 2000 I guess?) and see if it works then. Using a 10 year old+ program on a Vista OS that already has tons of compatibility issues is going to be sketchy at best.

Eh, I tried setting it's compatibility mode to all the available options, but it still didn't work.

Try downloading a trial version of Word 2003 and 2007 and make sure it's a word problem and not some printer problem or something on your PC. If you can print fine in the more recent versions of Word I think you'll just have to upgrade.

I'm not sure if you can print using the Trial versions of Word. Just try making a .txt or Notepad file and attempt to print that.
