Fold Usage

I'm interested in how Corsairs are using this JA.
I see about three general "policies":

- On Double Bust only
Pro: Safety from double Bust
Con: May go unused for long periods -- party suffers more unlucky numbers and cautious rolls during single Bust

- On Any Bust
Pro: Reduces need for cautious rolls during single bust
Con: Frequent use might leave the JA unready against double bust

- On Any Bust or Unlucky 9
Pro: Spare yourself a likely bust on the dud rolls
Con: Frequent use might leave the JA unready against double bust

For now I'm planning to leave Fold at 15 minute timer if that makes a difference. Thanks.

It depends on lot on the COR, and the situation. In XP, i'll Fold on pretty much any Bust, mainly because a decent COR won't Bus,! that much. The only time I really push rolls is when Snake Eye and Fold are up, or Random Deal. With a 10 minute Snake Eye, 12:30 Fold and smart usage of Random Deal, you're likely to get either Snake Eye or Fold back before it's timer is up. I'd say I over all I only Bust 1 or 2 times an hour, even when i'm rolling aggressively with Fold and Random Deal up.

In event type situations, i'd probably try as much as possible to save it for whatever roll is most important, usually Evoker's Roll. That being said, if you don't use it, you're probably not rolling aggressively enough. COR is there for it's rolls more than anything else usually, so it's the CORs job to keep up the most consistant and powerful roles they can.

i only have one upgrade in fold and this is how i use it. btw i was really pleased with the new cor merits, now just give me a reason to want to do dyna for cor af2 and access to relic gun hehe.

1. i normally /whm at endgame events and will fold on an evokers bust when i am only refresher in party. im proud of my 450-500 mp for elvaan . and for those new cors keep in mind that while you can reroll a busted roll(bust on evokers then 50-60 seconds later reroll evokers) on your party, you retain the bust effect and dont get the roll.

2. on a double bust but that is veryyyy rare. i will stop at 6 if i got a bust on me already.

3. lets say your doing a zerg fight and roll unlucky(if you bust on a roll your cor does not need, just wait for next roll recast) on a needed melee roll, ill fold and try again.

That's what I do. IMO, folding on an unlucky number is worse than rolling on said unlucky number and then having to fold the resulting bust, especially if you've timed it so that Phantom Roll will be up again shortly after you bust+fold. You'll bust a fair amount when doubling up on 9, but certainly not 100% of the time, so it's a waste to automatically give up on it. Also, depending on the roll, you could just Snake Eye.

I don't know what it is, but I bust probably 50-33% of the time when I have a 6 and double up. Just don't risk it, it's not the 1/6 chance like assuming fair-dice would tell you.

More qftness. The amount of times I roll 6>6 is just ridiculous. That being said, when I have Fold and Random Deal up, and Double-Up on a 7, I literally never Bust. I wouldn't say 50% on 6>6, but more like 20-30% of the time, and almost all those times i'm covered by Fold.

The "con" in this situation should never occur, since there's no reason to roll more cautiously or stay on any more unlucky numbers than you did before with 1 bust up if you have Fold active. Doing so is defeating the whole purpose of the ability.

As other posters stated, there's never any reason at all to Fold on a IX or any other unlucky number, unless you accidentally hit the wrong roll by accident. Just double-up - you'll have a 1/3 chance of hitting either X or XI, and if you bust you still have Fold to fall back on.

Whether I use Fold to erase the first bust I get, or save it for double-busts depends on the sitation I'm in and what roll I'm using. In some situations, it can be beneficial to have 1 Bust on, say if I'm swapping between parties in an alliance trying to apply the same roll to each. In a situation where as COR I would benefit from having 2 rolls on, or where the Bust penalty of a particular roll would have a negative impact on my performance (such as Chaos or Hunter's Roll), I usually Fold as soon as I bust, and Random Deal to hopefully reapply the roll immediately.

In terms of XPing.

I use fold as a safety net for rolling more dangerously.
Always hit 6/7/unlucky, fold if bust.

If double bust, use random deal, (hope it gets fold, fairly likely).
If it doesn't , use wild card if rolls are particularly important, and then fold.

Con is obviously you will bust and double bust more often.
Pro is unless your having a really bad streak, your party spends majority of their time on lucky/10/11.

If you get double bust... why don't you just log in and out?

Because Fold takes 1 second to use, and logging out/in takes 45-60 seconds? In a lot of situations it's just not practical to log out and in each time a double-bust happens.

I don't see why it isn't if you're doing an event and not XP, I mean... unless you're subbing something to help heal, what else are you going to do in the 40-50 seconds while phantom roll ticks down after your bust. All you're gonna be doing is shooting Quick Draw. And you should never get a double bust during XP.
