I was wondering if these were any good. Thinking about ordering one.

There's a fairly quality review here:

Review is a good read thanks for posting it.
anyone have anything else to say about it?
I won't ever use a different keyboard on my own personal computer ever again. It's got more features than most people need, but I use just about every one. It is wider than most keyboards and a little longer so if you have a pullout tray on your computer desk it might not fit right, I had to readjust mine and sometimes the lcd is hard to read because it can go underneath the top part of the desk.Originally Posted by makojr

I absolutely love mine. It's not only worth buying because of the special features (LCD, G-keys, backlighting, Windows key switch, etc), it's an extremely nice keyboard in general. It's well-built, the keys have the right amount of travel and tactile response, and the multimedia keys are smartly placed and easily used, which isn't always the case. Once you get away from the features that every keyboard has to some extent, it really starts to shine. The backlighting is a little thing, but it's very aesthetically pleasing and downright helpful in low-light conditions. The G-keys, while extremely handy in FFXI (using the G15Binder Windower plugin), are also useful in other programs if you take the time to create profiles and set the keys up. I haven't used the macro recording feature much, so I can't comment on that. The windows switch is a life-saver if you're playing older games that die when you alt-tab. However, the biggest star here is the LCD. I had initially thought that it'd be less useful than the other features, but it's really much more useful than you'd realize before using it. I use mine for everything from timing Tiamat's flying cycle (via the built-in timer program) to watching who is talking on Vent (new Vent beta client has G15 LCD support) to switching songs in Winamp. The last in particular is very intuitive, because the multimedia keys are *right* by the LCD, meaning you don't have to look back at your monitor to see what's playing, or even have Winamp visible. There's lots of third party plugins that add support for the LCD to other programs, although I don't use many personally.
Yeah, $70 (common retail price, on Newegg for example) is a lot to spend on a keyboard, but it really is an amazing keyboard if you're willing to give it a shot.
I have the old G15 keyboard, it's pretty big overall with the extra 18 keys on the left side, but I still love it :3. The version 2 of the g15 came out a couple weeks ago if you are talking about that one.

It is a bit slimmer and sleek, but too bad it's orange and not pretty blue.
I have an older one, and I don't think I like the new one as much. It has fewer shortcut keys, but it has a nicer LCD. Not a worthwhile tradeoff imo. I don't really like the "smaller" design either, or the lack of a cover for the LCD during transport. Fortunately, Newegg still sells the older one.Originally Posted by viperlasson
The old one looks better to me, I've used my brother's and its quite nice. Basically a keyboard that has a mini HUD that can display different things, and 18 programmable keys. I know both work great with WoW, not sure how FFXI supports it.
Most important thing about keyboards is knowing where all the keys are though
I have one, and it rocks my world. Seriously, these G-keys are invaluable.
EDIT: Just saw the "new" version of the keyboard and wow, that sucks. You go from 18 G-keys to 6? The fuck? I almost feel like buying another one of the old kind in case this one ever craps out, I have a suitable replacement. =(
EDIT2: Here's the old one, for comparison.
EDIT3: Actually, come to think of it, had I known of this version, I would've gotten that. The LCD is nice, but my keyboard is on a slide-tray so I don't even see/use the LCD. This one has all the same shit except no LCD and it's $30 cheaper. >_>
just ordered one from buy.com. hopefully i'll be as happy with the purchase as you guys are.
thanks for the input.
G15 is great for games that have native support for it, battlefield 2142 comes to mind. Makes keeping track of your stats while you wait for maps to load a breeze, and always displays your rank/squad info ect. Also with all the 3rd party programs makes the lcd incredibly useful if you take advantage of it. I personally dont use the macro keys much but then again i don't play ffxi anymore, if i did i am sure i would get more use out of them.
Oh, one word of advice, if you use fraps with it, do not set fraps to display on the lcd, on my q6600 that used up ~15% processor usage just running, versus the popular mod "sir real's lcd manager" which uses 0, and is customizable.
god its awesome for bf2142. You can't go wrong with this keyboard, seriously. Nothing beats having 54 extra keys lol.Originally Posted by Mala
Too bad I didn't see this yesterday. I was going to joke that it was a piece of crap, but I could never say anything bad about that keyboard, even in jest. The G keys are just amazing, I have the first 10 set to automatically swap macro pallets, and my last two to automatically follow and target my second character. The LCD screen is great, the light up buttons are great, the key response is great. I seriously did not know that a keyboard could be that awesome.
It's a great keyboard, and handy in many situations. If you're still playing XI, the LCD screen won't come into much use, but the G Keys can be (although I still use Alt and Ctrl through force of habit). It doesn't take long to adjust to and is quite comfortable. The lighting features certainly help in the dark, and the characters aren't quick to wear out. Although I've heard rumors of them wearing out before, mine hasn't for a good while now, coming up on 7-8 months or so. I'd certainly recommend it.
The only thing wearing out on mine is the silver paint around the keyboard from my hands resting on certain spots.
You can tell I play too much XI because it's wearing out hardcore around Esc, the numpad, and the arrow keys. xD
No "natural" flavor of this keyboard...![]()
Lol, same here. There are two little white patches right above the arrow keys where my index and middle finger usually rest while playing XI.Originally Posted by Auspice

my patch is from ffxi+bf2142. I rest my hand on the black part, the extra hand rest thing for my movement keys, but my left hand anchors just below Lctrl/Lalt. It started to turn darker so I used a tissue to rub it off and it is now turning white lol. I use my pinky for G keys on bf2142 as well, so the spot gets hit even harder.Originally Posted by Epical
