Any other listeners here? I have a decently long 20 minute drive to/from class and I can usually catch part of All Things Considered on the way home. I've started listening to the podcasts so I can catch the whole thing now, and I must say I enjoy the variety and quality of the coverage. A better news program exists not, I mean they even ran a story examining their own supposed liberal bias.

I listen to KPLU jazz on occasion and I love KCRW of L.A.'s music to listen to streaming online.

I really find that NPR and PRI programming is vastly superior to my own state media, the CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation). Where NPR news and media is urbane and intellectual, CBC is rustic and "down to earth" - and I mean that in a disparaging way.

I hate their weekend news programming though, a bit too ridiculously liberal, not unlike FOX's ridiculously conservative smacktalk. The one exception to that rule is Car Talk. Car Talk is hilarious.

friend of mine slowly getting me hooked on the local french station, they play stuff that sounds like astrud gilberto and leonard cohen in the day and electro at night, and nice little 40s ditties in between

definitely a nice break from commercials every 7 minutes for 8 minutes with songs played so much they are practically commercials themselves

Yeah, NPR gets on my nerves a bit for being just a bit too liberal (and I'm from communist Canada) but their original radio programming is awesome.

How well is KCRW perceived in LA? I just found it off somebody's webcomic one day and can only listen online, so I have no idea how it fits in with other radio stations in the LA/SoCal region.

I'm a huge fan of NPR myself, Talk of the Nation/All Things Considered are usually very informative and bring really good guests on to talk.

Yea I'm not too fond of programming where people can call in. As much as I like to think that NPR is unbiased, the people that usually call in are such bleeding heart liberals.

And yeah, its Neil Conan. Another part of the reason I like it is you can actually tell that the hosts are very intelligent people, asking pointed questions and whatnot and able to contribute to just about any discussion.

I would generally agree except their interviews are generally 100% kid gloves. They don't call guests on bullshit like 'most people would agree that <insert liberal nonsense here>...' Call me old-fashioned, but I prefer the 60 minutes 'trap door' style of interview journalism. Radio interviewers are generally just not demanding enough of their subjects. This is true of most talk radio though so I can't exclusively fault NPR for doing it.

All Things Considered is all right. This American Life/Prairie Home Companion are among their more entertaining original programming, however, aside from Car Talk of course.

I listen every day to Morning Edition and All Things Considered. It's much more thorough and informative than any other radio news broadcast you can find.

And that includes most of Air America's lineup - I only listen to Rachel Maddow now, and even that's on podcast. I listened to them constantly from the moment they went on the air until about a year ago, and I just found it annoying because they'd rehash the same tired arguments day after day. The thing that really killed it though was when they canned Mike Malloy. That guy was the faucet for all my rage against the totally inept government here in the United States, and the frustration of how even with a major upheaval in Congress the Democrats can't get anything done because they are still being stonewalled by whiny Republican power brokers.

I dunno...I haven't listened in a while (used to every day--my schedule's changed), but Diane Rehm would grill her guests pretty hard if they were skirting issues. A lot of people can't get past the way her voice wavers, but hers was easily my favorite show when I used to listen.

I normally don't like to listen to things that are just waaaaaaay too on either side, I can't stand Rush Limbaugh and I can't stand most of NPR.

In my car, I either listen to CDs or one of two stations: WCPE, a local classical station, and our NPR station (WNCU) which plays a large variety of music, but predominately jazz. Whenever something shitty comes on the classical station (read: baroque), I always flip it to WNCU and listen to the broadcasts there. NPR is great. :D

Absolutely. Diane is a fucking tiger when she wants to be. She scored major brownie points with me when she nailed McKain on the Petraus issue. McKain was going on about how it's horrible that people are attacking this honorable military man who served his country and yada yada, and just as the music was playing for the break Diane says "Well to be fair, that's exactly what your party did to John Kerry in the 2004 election."
