So, I'm running into a problem with FFXI crashing any time I try to change my main or sub jobs to either scholar or dancer.

I ran a file check, everything turned up clear. I e-mailed support, they gave me a cut/paste auto-reply & asked me to reply if that didn't fix it. I did so, and they asked me to contact them via phone or live chat for troubleshooting assistance. So I went to Live Chat & got in touch with a GM that recommended a bug report 30 seconds after reviewing my question (brilliant bastard). I informed the GM that nobody else has been reporting the issues that I've been having or I'd have already filed a bug report, and he actually suggested some troubleshooting steps.

Anyway, I've done a chkdsk /f, defrag, and am running yet another file check in POL viewer for the FFXI files.

Now, assuming this doesn't fix the problem, does anybody know a way to uninstall just WotG expansion? When I tried to use uninstall via Add/Remove Programs, the prompts made it sound like I'd be uninstalling FFXI entirely, even though there are uninstall options for FFXI and each expansion separately.

I did run a search, but I haven't found any similar topics about this particular problem. Any info on this would be appreciated.


(Of note, I am asking for assistance with Windows XP, my apologies for not mentioning it earlier).

Edit to add: Post chkdsk & defrag file check also turned up clear. Only option I see atm is to try & reinstall WotG.

No simple way to do it. If FFXI is still glitching, just reinstall the whole things, it doesnt take that long. Save your macro folder/marker and do the update overnight. Installation takes around 1h, and updates will be done when you wake up.

Not that simple. I've moved a few times since I've installed FFXI, and I lost my reg codes. I'm fairly sure the reg codes are needed during the installation process, aren't they?

They shouldn't need reg codes during installation, but don't lose your POLID or password.

Like Aurik said, you dont need those code. Just make sure you have pol ID/password (dont forget they forced most of us to change it not too long ago).

You should also keep track of the personal information on your POL account and credit card number if you ever have to call them for anything. Shouldnt be a problem if you didnt type stupid stuff when you registered.

I never type stupid stuff when I register, because that typically causes most services to decline my card when the name & address info doesn't match up. Anywho, enough going off tangent for me... work to do & running to the store while it updates.

Would probably need to edit one or two registry values associated with WoTG, but even then, maybe you would need an older version of pol.exe to install it correctly. I'm sure it could be done, some stuff like that are not worth it generally.

Just ran the uninstall for WotG & it only disables the expansion. I logged back in after uninstalling to verify that it'd still play w/out WotG (though of course I couldn't log in as I am currently on Scholar).

The uninstall prompts made it look like it'd completely remove FFXI (check it out), but thankfully that's not the case.

Back when they had the other corrupted update, for ToAU, I learned that you can revert to right before the installation in "System Recovery" in windows. Saved me a lot of heartbreak and time.

Except I prefer to conserve my system resources. The first thing I did when I bought this pc was disable System Recovery.

Either way, it's not an FFXI issue. I reinstalled WotG & it still happened, so I decided on a whim to try it without windower, and voila, no crash!

Now to track down which plugin is giving me beef so I can disable it until it's fixed.

Edit to add: AutoExec is the culprit. No big deal, I'll just have to enable ExpWatch manually until it's fixed.

Recast is broken.

Recast won't even let the game load (for anybody). AutoExec allows you to play the game but crashes when I change to a WotG job (and it seems to malfunction differently for different people, check the Windower forums).

Way to be constructive. That remark may have been called for if you had made it before I discovered the problem myself, but anybody can claim it as a no-brainer after the fact.

It might also have been a no-brainer if you had mentioned you were using windower in the first place. That's what one would usually call relevant information.
