    Deoderize

Has anyone had an experience where this spell has helped them shake agro? I cannot think of a single monster that is aggressive to smell only, nor can I recall a single instance where this has worked

    Re: Deoderize

I've messed around with deoderize while mining in Mount Zhayolm. Here are my results:

Sneak wore off and I aggroed some slimes. Under normal circumstances the slimes will follow you across the whole zone, which has happened to me numerous times. Hide never works, since they are sound based, but I think they track by smell. So the next time this happened I kited ahead a bit with my Trotter's Boots and cast Deoderize, then used Hide. This worked.

Secondly, this also works with trolls. Trolls aggro by sight but Hide does not work on them, so they must track by other means. Deoderize then hide worked on these also.

So being able to get far enough out in front of the mobs and out of their line of sight while continuing to move away from mobs after casting deodorize works? Sounds great! Thanks for information. Think I may need some flee gears now

Sorry i had just woken up when i posted my first reply, hide doesn't work, you have to cast sneak+deoderize to lose a slime - just tested it 2 minutes ago.

Will test on trolls in a bit, gotta get those Khroma Ores!

When I solo the clawrar's nest escort I will sleepga the scorps/clawrars on the first map to save some time. The best rule of thumb that I found is that you want to get far enough away that you can no longer target the mob before using deodorize. Seems to work fairly well when you do it that way.

    Re: Deoderize

I believe Goblins also follow your 'scent' to leave their normal walking path and aggro? Probably not just Goblins but I usually just invis anyway.

    That other wiki says:
No mobs aggro on smell, however some follow solely on smell. For example:

    * Casting deodorize on someone being followed by a crawler will unlink the crawler.
    * Casting deodorize on someone who has pulled a crawler and linked one or more others will cause the linked mobs to unlink and drop aggro.

I've never done it but sounds interesting.

    Re: Deoderize

    Bugards are another example.
Sleep bugard->run away = bugard hunts you down at enhanced speed.
Sleep bugard->deodorize->run away = bugard loses aggro

Sleep + Deodorize was successful in losing aggro on a Rafflesia in Fort Karugo-Narugo [S] as well.

    Re: Deoderize

Was soloing on SCH/NIN at the outpost in Sanctuary (32ish). Sometimes I would accidently get links on the Goobbue Parasites with the Goblin Leeches I was killing, and would use Deodorize to shed aggro. Basically I just kill the Pet very quickly, kite around the OP to gain distance, then use Celerity + Deodorize and hate would shed within 10 seconds. Extremely useful.

The same would apply to goblins, only I would use Invisible. I think someone mentioned Goblins were odor based; however, my experience with this is if you Invisible up and kite, it loses hate within 10 seconds.

    Re: Deoderize

Goblins track by sight, a plain Hide is enough to shed hate (you can also Hide in front of them then SA+WS with full bonuses).

That crawlers thingy seems nice, especially when you can't pull safely (CN) most of the times.

    Re: Deoderize

Anyways, back to the original topic. The only times I ever use deodorize is when im running through a zone infested with undead and im about to unweaken or w/e. Deodorize will prevent blood aggro. Other then that I know you can use deodorize-> hide to get away from orcs because they track by scent. Yagudo and gobbies are sight aggro/track.

And one thing I will never understand is that when you aggro crawlers and run through water they will chase you forever, but if you ranged attack and run through water 99% of the time they will lose aggro.

    Re: Deoderize

Running across water will also have the same effect as deodorize. A long time ago in the Torimarai Canal, I aggroed some mobs. If I remember right they were scorpions. I ran the hell away and into the canal. As soon as I touched the water, they deaggroed. You can test it on any mob that tracks by scent where there is water.

I've never seen this work. Tested it doing Convert > Deodorize > rest next to a Bogy in Valkurm.

Resting is it's own kind of aggro.

I've used Deodorize to get freshly raised noobs out of the coffer areas of Eldieme, so I can confirm it works.

Wrong, lol. It doesn't work and has never worked.

Resting simply makes monsters ignore the level check when determining aggro.

    Re: Deoderize

only problem with convert > deodorize > rest near bogy is that it may have not aggrod to blood aggro... but to sound. should have cast sneak as well, then rested. if it aggrod through sneak + deodorize, youve found your answer.

oh, and because im a pup, just for the fun of it

    Re: Deoderize

Like others have said here, Deodorize will not prevent blood aggro. You can easily test this without the sneak thing by being around 20' range. Sneak aggro is typically only 10'.
